The new school year has begun in Kenya, and thanks to the continued generosity of our donors, we’re able to provide children with the support they need to succeed! In Kenya, many students attend boarding school, which means their school fees cover room and board, supplies, clothing, and basic necessities like soap and toothbrushes. With your help, children from extreme poverty are given the chance to break the cycle and build brighter futures. Together, we’re empowering the next generation of leaders in Kenya! ✨😎✌️

We are pleased to continue our partnership with once again this year to ensure that 16,000 children in Kenya receive the essential micronutrients they need for healthy growth and development.

The Benefits of Vitamin A Supplementation: Vitamin A deficiency is a leading cause of preventable childhood blindness, and a major contributor of illness and death. Providing two doses of vitamin A supplements a year is a proven way to prevent childhood blindness and increase survival rates up to 24%.

Vitamin A is critical to healthy growth and development and supports a strong immune system and vision. The main source of vitamin A is through food — leafy greens, eggs, fish, and fortified staples like milk, cereal, and bread. But children experiencing food insecurity or malnutrition in low income or middle income countries may struggle to get sufficient nutrients from their diet. When those nutritional needs cannot be met through food alone, supplementation with vitamin A is an effective and proven way to fill a nutritional gap.

An estimated 250,000–500,000 children suffering from vitamin A deficiency become blind each year, and half of them die within 12 months of losing their sight. The World Health Organization recommends all children ages 6–59 months living in areas with moderate to severe vitamin A deficiency receive supplementation. Providing children with vitamin A supplements and antiparasitics decreases the incidence and severity of many childhood infections such as diarrhea and measles, and increases overall survival rates.

Our Here for Her program is underway! We are actively working to end the practice of FGM in Kenyan communities, particularly in Nandi. This initiative is part of our strategy to prevent this harmful practice, as the girls are educated on various life skills, the importance of education, and self-reliance, among other topics. Additionally, we provide basic needs and take the girls on educational outings. Our efforts also involve engaging parents through education and supporting their children’s success in school. We are appreciative of the support of local organizations, including social services, local churches, and our partner Level One Foundation.

Did you know that in some parts of rural Kenya, the illegal practices of FGM and early marriage still take place? Generally the girls who are highest risk come from hard to reach areas, and from conditions of extreme poverty. Last year, we organized “Here for Her”, a program where we brought together a group of girls from vulnerable backgrounds and hosted them at our rescue center for two weeks. During their time with us, an all-female team coached and mentored the girls on caring for their minds and their bodies, to know their value and to expect more out of life. Our goal is for these girls to become strong, powerful women in their communities. ⁣This year’s program is kicking off soon. As we prepare for it, a special thanks to , who contributed reusable menstrual kits from . Often times, things that we’d easily overlook or forget to consider, such a menstrual pads or tampons are not available due to the cost, and thus on a monthly basis, girls struggle with daily activities. These small but significant resources build the foundation for girls to maintain hygiene and dignity, and to stay in school. Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks!

It’s that time of year again in Kenya, when the kids return to school for another term. We purchase new uniforms for those who have outgrown theirs, and purchase new notebooks, pencils, and all other items needed. Some of our sponsored students are in boarding school and others are in “day school” which means they don’t live at the school. It’s also a time when we work with our partners from social services to evaluate the health and well-being of the children. We appreciate the ongoing support of our donors! Without your contributions, it would not be possible to ensure that the children receive an education. ♥

Thanks to our partnership with we’ve been able to provide tens of thousands of doses of essential micronutrients to young children in rural areas. These essential micronutrients ensure proper development of eye sight, immune function and body development for growing children between the ages of 1-5 years. The supplements we distribute pair vitamin A and deworming treatments to improve child nutrition and build the foundation for healthy lives.

Before leaving Kenya, Sanna and her family met with Governor Sang of Nandi County to discuss progress and plans for the future. The Governor has been a good friend and partner to us. Through partnership with the county and with local social services, we are able to ensure that the resources of the go to the children in most need.

The girl’s rescue center is surrounded by beautiful nature and amazing views of the surrounding area. This location was a place we fell in love with immediately as we hoped that the serene surroundings would contribute toward healing of the girls who are in our care… our matron reports the strategy is effective and the peace of the home is very therapeutic. ♥

Hello and Merry Christmas from our Girls Rescue Center in Kenya! Here are a few photos of our “home mother”, Caro, with one of the girls who came into our care last year. This child was orphaned and highly malnourished when she came to us. She hadn’t been attending school and was in need of urgent medical attention. After surgery, nutritional supplementation, and nurturing care over the past months, she is THRIVING! Her weight is finally in a healthy range, she’s picking up in her studies at school, and her emotional/mental well-being is much improved. God is good and we are so appreciative of our donors and supporters who help to make this possible. ♥ Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Brian is a former street kid who lived a difficult life- navigating each day completely on his own. He was addicted to sniffing glue and struggled to have enough food. A few years ago, through our partnership with local social services in Kenya, Brian came into our program. Since then, he’s been in school and is thriving! He recently received a new box of supplies for boarding school, including books, clothes, soap, etc. A special thanks to our monthly donors who make this possible!

We just wrapped up the two week camp, Here for Her. This program was hosted at our rescue center, Garden of Hope, in Kenya and provided a unique opportunity to 14 girls who come from highly vulnerable backgrounds. The girls who were selected to receive a scholarship for this program are girls between the ages of 12-18, who are at risk of early marriage, teen pregnancy, not completing basic education and come from conditions of poverty. During the time they had with our team, they went through an intensive program, providing guidance and trainings on their life goals, setting and keeping healthy boundaries in relationships, tips and resources for how to stay in school and much, much more. The girls were given practical trainings as well, including gardening, caring for chickens, cooking, nutrition, and menstrual heath. We’ll share more photos in the coming days. Thank you so much to all who donated and made this possible!
