in September of 2018, we graduated the very first cohort of Beekeepers in Residence, not knowing if bees could win over a teen audience.
they did.
and in the 8 years since, they’ve won over a few more. we’ve shared our gardens with 111 youth trainees and adult mentors and with over 3,000 local residents - ages 2 through 97.
it’s been the greatest privilege to taste tomatoes and watermelon straight from the garden beds, cut and arrange dahlias and snapdragons for unsuspecting neighbors, watch your faces as you tasted the bees’ honey for the first time, and experience the authenticity of connection and relationship in nature.
and we can’t wait to do it all again soon.
but, for now, Huneebee is going into a sort of cluster. like the bees.
it’s time for us look back on these successes, and the challenges, of the past eight years, to analyze years of data demonstrating how beekeeping and social enterprise can strengthen youth mental health and employment prospects, and to plan for a future that is being shaped by uncertainty and resilience, and one that is begging us to be more intentional than ever before.

we won’t bee going far, and will work diligently to buzz back around and share as we learn more about the layers of our impact, how it can be built upon, and what is next on our horizon. 💛
