Help first responders and fellow boaters this year and learn about the difference between flares and fireworks

🎇 FIREWORKS
✅ For Celebration
• Bright, colorful, and designed for entertainment
• Short-lived sparkles, explosions, and light shows
• Typically followed by loud booms and crackling

🚨 FLARES
✅ For Emergency Use ONLY
• Signal distress on water or land
• Hand-held flares burn hot, bright, and between 1-5 minutes
• Flare guns shoot a single light flare that has a visible RISE and FALL, with very little noise
• Misuse can result in legal penalties and emergency response deployment

🚨 QUICK TIP TO TELL THEM APART:
If it's steady, red/orange, smoky, and silent → it's likely a flare

If it's colorful, loud, and bursts in patterns → it's a firework

Effective immediately, all Hamburg Water Rescue members must wear inflatable duck flotation devices during training and while responding to calls for increased visibility and morale.

The Erie County Department of Health has a free hands-on training session on March 2 (10-11:30am) presented by our Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness and the Erie County Medical Reserve Corps. Join us at the Erie County Training and Operations Center to learn about:

Hands-only CPR
Chest compressions
AED use
Choking relief
Naloxone/Narcan administration
