It was a busy day on the Farm Wednesday.

Thank you to volunteers who came out to help us work on some projects at the Farm, as part of the United Way Day of Caring. The Milk House was painted, there was work at the Ice House, the gardens were weeded and wood was split.

Then in the afternoon another group of about 100 volunteers came to help harvest potatoes This year Dreibelbis Historical Farm has been growing potatoes in the fields on the farm as part of the IHartHarvest Potato Project. We are excited to have received a grant from the Schuylkill Highlands mini grant program. This grant will be used to help control the Japanese Knotweed along out Nature Trail.

Happy National Sewing Month! Did you know that you have to grow about an acre of Flax to make one outfit? Join us on September 20th at the Farm to learn a little more about the process of turning Flax into Linen. On this day we will also be hosting a barn dance and have our last open house (house tours) for the season.

All of us at the Dreibelbis Farm are mourning the loss of one of our loyal volunteers, Faye Buckalew. She helped with the gardening, general workdays, and many of our events. We will miss her. We extend our sympathies to her sister Flora Buckalew.

Day of Caring is a community-wide volunteer event that takes place at various nonprofits and other locations throughout Berks County.

Thanks to all the volunteers, vendors, and exhibitors for helping us to welcome over 1,000 people to this year's Farm Festival! We hope that everyone who attended learned something new and had a fun time.

There were some items left at the festival: If anyone is missing a pair of red bifocal sunglasses, or a pair of children's blue sunglasses let us know.
