On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston with the news that slavery had been abolished in Texas, effectively ending slavery in the United States.

This day came to be known as Juneteenth.

The 2026 STAAR results are in for grades 3-8, and Texas students showed mixed but encouraging progress in reading, math and social studies.

The share of students reading on grade level continues to surpass pre-pandemic levels. While math scores improved slightly from last year, student performance largely remains below pre-pandemic levels.

The Modern has officially joined the Museums for All program! Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, June 2, admission is free to all visitors who hold a SNAP EBT card.

Museums for All supports increased accessibility to museum experiences and learning resources. This signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM), encourages people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. SNAP beneficiaries receive complimentary gallery and special exhibition tickets for up to four people. Museums for All is part of Modern’s broad commitment to seeking, including, and welcoming all.
