Summer Solstice — June 21, 2026
The longest day of the year can feel even longer in the life of a caregiver.

Most of us enjoy the longer days — more sunlight, more time outside, more moments with family.

But for a caregiver, one more minute can feel heavy. One more hour can feel overwhelming. The days are long, the nights are short, and the responsibility never really stops.

Please consider making a donation to help relieve some of the stress and burden these families are carrying. Your gift helps provide respite, support, education, and hope to caregivers right here in East Texas.

No one should walk this journey alone.

Mayor Jesse Casey and the Hallsville City Council officially proclaimed June 21, 2026, as Alzheimer’s Awareness Day during Tuesday evening’s City Council meeting, recognizing the impact Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias have on individuals, families, and caregivers throughout East Texas.

Mayor Casey presented the proclamation to Beth Godsey, Executive Director of the East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance (ETAA), accompanied by volunteers from the organization’s Hope & Help Day Club program.

The proclamation highlights the importance of raising awareness, supporting caregivers, and ensuring families have access to the resources they need while navigating the dementia journey.

Alzheimer’s disease affects millions of Americans and touches countless families across East Texas. Caregivers often dedicate countless hours providing care, support, and advocacy for loved ones living with dementia.

ā€œWe are incredibly grateful to Mayor Casey and the Hallsville City Council for recognizing Alzheimer’s Awareness Day and bringing attention to the challenges faced by families affected by dementia,ā€ said Beth Godsey. ā€œAwareness leads to understanding, support, and hope. No one should have to walk this journey alone.ā€

The proclamation comes as communities across the nation observe The Longest Day, held annually near the summer solstice on June 21. The event symbolizes the long and often difficult days experienced by those living with Alzheimer’s disease and the caregivers who support them.

The East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance serves 14 East Texas counties by providing caregiver support groups, respite opportunities, educational programs, Project Lifesaver services, dementia training, and resources designed to improve the quality of life for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers.

ETAA extends its sincere appreciation to Mayor Jesse Casey and the Hallsville City Council for their commitment to raising awareness and supporting families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øā¤ļø We had another wonderful day at Hope & Help Day Club today!

A special thank you to Tasha Nelson with Concho Hearts Hospice for the delicious pizza lunch, Jessica Patterson with Parkview on Hollybrook for the sweet breakfast treats, fruit, and cheese, Molly Norwood for delivering the devotional, and Dick Chapman for providing great entertainment. We are so grateful for each of you and your generous hearts.

We were excited to welcome several new families who visited us today. It is always a joy to introduce caregivers and dementia friends to the support, friendship, and fun that Hope & Help Day Club provides.

Our participants enjoyed making a patriotic gnome craft, exercising together during chair exercises, sharing laughter, and making new memories with friends.

Every week we are reminded that Hope & Help Day Club is about so much more than activities—it’s about connection, purpose, encouragement, and giving caregivers a much-needed opportunity to recharge.

Thank you to our volunteers, supporters, and community partners who make these special days possible. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of caregivers and dementia friends across East Texas. ā¤ļøšŸ’™šŸ¤

THE LONGEST DAY FOR CAREGIVERS

šŸŒžJune 21 is the Summer Solstice—the longest day of the year.šŸŒ—

For many family caregivers, every day can feel long. The responsibilities don’t end when the sun goes down. They provide care, supervision, comfort, and support around the clock, often while sacrificing their own rest, health, and peace of mind.

Imagine one more hour. One more minute. One more day of caregiving without a break.

šŸ‘‰Participate in our Summer Solstice Media Challenge on June 21. Share pics of the sunrise or sunset, video of your solstice run or walk, create solstice inspired art, or share your acts of kindness.

We had another wonderful day at our Hope & Help Day Club!

A special thank you to Jessica Carter for the sweet breakfast treats, the Jennings Connect Group at Mobberly Baptist Church for providing a delicious lunch, Judy Lamb for sharing an inspiring devotional, and Clark Anthony for entertaining us with his music.

Today, our dementia friends made patriotic lanterns and paper plate paddles for balloon games, enjoyed a lively game of bingo (thanks Howard for the laughs), spent time with our furry friend Sophie, and shared plenty of laughter, smiles, and fellowship.

We are incredibly blessed with such caring and dedicated volunteers. They notice when a dementia friend may be struggling, step in to help without being asked, and willingly fill whatever gaps are needed each week. Their compassion, flexibility, and servant hearts make all the difference.

Thank you to everyone who helps make Hope & Help Day Club such a special place for our dementia friends and their caregivers. šŸ’œ

We had another wonderful day at our Hope & Help Day Club! šŸ’œ

A special thank you to Nikki Vineyard-Crockett with CarePatrol for providing breakfast snacks, Greg Zachary with Mobberly Baptist Church for sharing today’s devotional, Jennifer Peden and Arabella of Kilgore for providing lunch, and Dick Chapman for bringing joy through music therapy and entertainment.

🄳 Happy Birthday, Jimmy! šŸŽ‰

Our dementia friends were also treated to haircuts and manicures today—just one more way we support caregivers by taking a few things off their already full plates. Sometimes it’s the little things, like trimmed nails or a fresh haircut, that make a big difference.

We could not provide this program without our incredible volunteers, generous community partners, and the wonderful facility provided by Mobberly Baptist Church.

Thank you for helping us create a place where our dementia friends can thrive and caregivers can find a little time to breathe. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of families across East Texas. šŸ’œ
