The Museum is open for tours by appointment only. Board meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month. The Halifax Area Historical Society records and ecucates regarding a small town and the neighboring farms and communities in rural Pennsylvania. The history they archive is a rich resource for those fortunate enough to live in the area, regardless of their roots, but especially if they have any family connections locally.

To help spread the patriotic spirit of America's 250th anniversary across the area this summer, the bell at the Historical Society building will come to life! Guided by Society members and special friends Dan and Jan Belles, the bell will sound in honor of this historic year at regular intervals throughout the season to “Let Freedom Ring!”

Beginning today on Memorial Day, May 25th, the bell will be rung at regular intervals on every weekend, continuing through July 4th when we will join the National Bell Festival for the “Bells Across America” celebration. (Details for this event can be found here: https://www.bells.org/blog/bell-ringing-guidelines-americas-250th). Volunteers will have limited opportunity to participate in this historic event by ringing the bell themselves with assistance from our team. The bell on the 175 year old building will sound at the following times and days:

Monday, May 25 - 6pm * Saturday, May 30 - 6pm * Sunday, May 31 - 6pm * Saturday, June 6th - 6pm * Sunday, June 7th - 6pm * Saturday, June 13th - 6pm * Sunday, June 14th - 6pm * Saturday, June 20th - 6pm * Sunday, June 21st - 6pm * Saturday, June 27th - 6pm * Sunday, June 28th - 6pm * Thursday, July 2nd - 6pm * Friday, July 3rd - 6pm * Saturday, July 4th - 2:50pm

Join us as we make history! For details, HAHS events surrounding these dates, and opportunities to participate in the bell ringing, reach out to the historical society at 717-896-8010, [email protected] or directly to Dan and Jan Belles at 717-896-8191

Peter Rise and George Sheafer are the founders of Halifax. On May 8, 1794, a deed for the land which the town of Halifax, Pa resides was recorded by Philip Brindle and George Norton, Attorneys at Law. A few months later, on July 18, the land was surveyed and a map was made containing building lots, streets and alleys. This original, platted map of Halifax is on display at the Halifax Area Historical Society. Happy Birthday Halifax!!
