Food insecurity affects all walks of life. Feeding our bodies is a basic human need. Ensuring people don't go hungry is a human rights issue but also a civil rights issue. Today people who have never had to make choices between paying for housing, medical needs or food are now faced with this impossible choice. Sadly, this is a daily reality for many. The need is even more urgent when you consider the impact to vulnerable health populations: children, seniors and disabled communities. Hunger doesn't discriminate which is why we are taking this moment to call our Halifax Pride community to action.
As we have in the past, Halifax Pride will be making a donation to the Helping Hands Food Pantry. We encourage others who are able to also consider making a donation to a food pantry.
If you are experiencing food insecurity, below are some local resources.
If you are facing immediate hunger due to lack of SNAP benefits can call or text Project Bread’s Food Source Hotline at 1-800-645-8333 to receive information about food resources in their area or talk with a Project Bread counselor.
The hotline is available Monday-Friday 8am - 7pm and Saturday 10am – 2pm.
The Halifax Helping Hands Food Pantry is open every Tuesday for residents of Halifax and Plympton from 2:30-4:00 for those in need. The pantry is located at the Halifax Congregational Church 503 PLYMOUTH STREET, HALIFAX, MA 02338
St. Vincent DePaul FOOD PANTRY -- Located at 575 Monponsett Street, Halifax Our Lady of the Lake Hall
Hours: 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month 9:00am-10:30am
There are also some food vendors that are offering support to those in need. We will share those resources as we find them. Please use this post to share resources you have.
Be well and thank you for loving all people.
