At the BEEC!

Join us tomorrow for the first in our Monday Meditations with Nature series at BEEC with Amanda Kenyon of www.landkindguide.com!

Join us on October 7th, 14th, 21st, & 28th from 4-5pm. Explore a variety of guided meditations and mindfulness practices that promote well-being, relaxation, and meaningful connection to the natural world. We’ll connect with Nature and our inner selves through our senses and tools that strengthen presence, calm and our relationship with the more-than-human-being community on the land.

Guided meditations may include seated meditation around a fire, walking meditations on easy terrain, breath work, mindful movement, and interactive invitations. In case of inclement weather, we’ll meet indoors at BEEC’s beautiful new education center and bring the elements of nature into the room and into our hearts.

Please register to let us know you would like to be a part of the series. Drops-ins are welcome as well. Come to the dates you are able to – no commitment is required for the full series. Suggested donation is $10-15 per session, and can be paid by either using the registration form or in-person when you arrive.

Head to www.beec.org/what-we-do/public-programs-and-events/walks-talks/ to register and for more info!

Welcome, Jill!

Welcome, Jill!

We’re so excited to have VHCB AmeriCorps Program member Jill DeVito join the BEEC team!

Jill loves to connect people of all ages with their own curiosity about science and nature. She once wrote a dissertation about how toad tadpoles behave around garter snakes, which is appropriate because many of her favorite animals are creepy and crawly. Before moving to Vermont to spend more time in the woods, she lived in many other states – including Texas, where she taught biology for fifteen years at the University of Texas at Arlington. During that time she moonlighted as an informal educator, first at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, and later at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

Come meet her at the Asters & Goldenrods walk this Saturday, 9/28! Head to www.beec.org to sign up.

Wetlands, Beavers and Flood Resilience in the Towns of Halifax, Guilford, and Marlboro. Beavers are a keystone species: many life forms depend on the wetlands and beaver meadows beavers create. Check out our flyer about beavers and how to live peacefully with them in the neighborhood:https://czresearch.com/conservation/HalifaxBeaverflyer2021-04-13.pdf

A new study shows that river barriers, similar to those built by beavers, can protect areas at risk of flooding by storing water upstream.
