Partners in Animal Care and Compassion One very effective solution is the implementation of playgroups with trained staff/volunteers running groups of dogs with similar play styles.

Outdated behavior testing (fake hands taking food away from an animal that's eating), lack of exercise and socialization, all contribute to an animal's stress and deterioration in a shelter environment. This not only gives the dogs the exercise and socialization they need, reduces stress, and makes them more adoptable - but also frees up time for staff. The staff will get to know the individual do

gs better, and help potential adopters find the dog that's the right fit for them. California shelters using outdated methods, can, and should, follow the lead of progressive shelters who are already doing these things and have successfully increased adoption rates and reduced euthanasia. It's a win-win for everyone! The animals need your voice. Let yours be heard and encourage shelters to do better.
