Does anyone else feel like the beach feels a little empty without some of our regular baskers? We're definitely thinking of them every day and awaiting their safe return home after nesting.

📸 For now, little Le'a is one that keeps us busy regularly. This little turtle won't be migrating for a few more years at least. 🥰

🐢💚Happy World Sea Turtle Day!🐢💚

Update on our girl ( )
As you know she has migrated to Lalo (French Frigate Shoals). The team at NOAA Fisheries Pacific Islands reported that they had seen her basking on East Island twice and they had given her the number E59.

was last seen on East Island on June 4th. Our dear friends in Lalo were kind enough to send us an updated picture. Take a peek!

East Island is located in the Papahānaumokuākea National Marine Sanctuary, about 500 miles northwest of Ipo's home beach on O'ahu, and is where the majority of honu go to nest. Ipo was last seen on her home beach on 3/26/26 and she had been basking frequently before she left, so we suspected she might go! It's wonderful to get confirmation that she made the journey to nest safely.

📷 Photo credit and a huge mahalo goes to our partners at NOAA for sending us this amazing photo of Ipo, so far from home. The temporary identification number "E59" was applied to her shell for quick identification, and we look forward to seeing her safely back on our beach at the end of the season!

Summer is about ready to officially kick off and that means a lot of activity. It's mating and nesting season for turtles and travel season for humans!

Coexistence on the beach is key, and one of our main education points is respectful viewing. If you live here, you can help us by becoming a volunteer! If you're a visitor, please read signs and ask questions. We are here to help!

📸 Photo of L-41 Le'a basking, taken by Hayden Al Harash. Hayden and his family were on O'ahu and spent a lot of time with our volunteers learning about the honu. They were kind enough to share some photos and kind words from their experience. Thank you Hayden and family!

⭐️INTRODUCING L-41 LE'A!⭐️

Our newest subadult honu has been named! Volunteers voted on this name that means "fun to have around" and Le'a is definitely a fun one! You can often see this honu basking on the rock shelf, and then maybe grabbing a snack before riding a wave down the rock surface like a slide!

Volunteers, look out for identification info and signs coming soon on the beach, and for now these photos can help you identify!

⭐️INTRODUCING L-42 HO'OKAHI!⭐️

Our newest adult male honu has been named! Volunteers voted on this name that means "oneness" and Ho'okahi's calm, peaceful presence definitely feels as one with the beach.

Volunteers, look out for identification info and signs coming soon on the beach, and for now these photos can help you identify!

📢 Big News! AGAIN!

We have now received confirmation from that both and have arrived at Lalo (French Frigate Shoals), approximately 500 miles from O'ahu!

Both males were seen at Tern Island. Oakley was last seen on O'ahu on February 19th and Kulihi was last seen on April 5th. We look forward to their safe return, likely near the end of the summer mating season.

Stay tuned all summer for more updates!

Our Oahu team has had a busy week. We have announced the migration of three female turtles. We have provided educational programs in schools and in the community, and we continue to be present on the beach to support visitors, residents, and locals who want to visit our turtles!

Wildlife truly is what makes Hawaii special. Help us by learning more about Hawaii's wildlife.

Seeing a green sea turtle basking in the sun at Laniakea Beach has become as reliable as a sunset, so much so that hundreds of visitors make the trek to Oahu’s North Shore to view them daily.
