Mobility matters! It’s a big stepping stone to your success!

‘Mizinga, look. You are not here for long’, my boss, the CEO, an expatriate from Zimbabwe, told me. ‘Choose just one or two things that you can achieve during your time here, and no more. That way, you will return to Zambia confident in your contribution here and able to say clearly, “This is what I achieved”.’

I took his advice to heart. I focused on an initiative to launch forward contracts with clients because I’d had that experience in Zambia and that product had not yet been introduced in Uganda.

‘Wow, Mizinga. You have done so well. You see, now you can go back to Zambia and say, “I launched the first ever forward contract in the market”. Well done’.
I understood then that I not only was helping to build the company brand but I was building a personal brand.

An Except from Braving the Odds!

In order to step into higher positions, it’s important to venture out and work in other towns or indeed countries! It’s difficult and risky sometimes but the benefits of mobility far outweigh the risks! I’m a product of Mobility having worked and lived in so many countries!

I’m encouraged when I see the likes of Sonny Zulu
who has come back from his Mobility journey to take on bigger jobs in the market. He had to experience mobility in order to come back to a bigger job!
