Hailey Tree Committee

Hailey Tree Committee The Hailey Tree Committee strives to promote sound arboricultural practices and tree diversity, and to promote public education of proper tree care practices.

The Hailey Tree Committee was formed in 2008 and began work in the fall with an Arbor Day planting at Keefer Park. The Committee is focused on inventory, maintenance, conservation efforts, and public education. The vision of the committee is to maintain the health and safety of the existing public trees and educate the citizens of Hailey on the value of maintaining private trees.

The most common damage to young trees is from lawnmowers and w**d cutters scraping or cutting bark. Each time it happens, irreplaceable cells are killed just inside the bark. The tree needs this tissue to transport nutrients, put on diameter growth, and fend off disease and insect attacks. Use wood chips, compost or mulch to provide a protective circle around your young trees. This protective barrier also contributes to more rapid growth by retaining moisture, regulating soil temperature and eliminating competition from grass or w**ds.
