🚒 Who is Blaine County Fire & Rescue?

On October 1, the BC South Fire Protection District and Ketchum Fire District came together as one organization, creating a unified fire and EMS department serving the Wood River Valley.

On November 3, voters will decide whether Hailey Fire would join this unified department.

As the firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics who serve this community, we’ll be sharing more over the next few weeks about the annexation proposal and what it could mean for the future of fire and EMS services in Hailey.

El 1 de octubre, el Distrito de Protección contra Incendios de BC South y el Distrito de Bomberos de Ketchum se unieron como una sola organización, creando un departamento unificado de bomberos y servicios médicos de emergencia (EMS) que presta servicios en todo el Valle del Río Wood.

🚒 You might be asking, “Why is now the right time for Hailey Fire annexation?”

Ketchum Fire District and Blaine County South Fire Protection District have formally consolidated to become Blaine County Fire District, operating as Blaine County Fire & Rescue (BCFR).

At the same time, joint operations between BCFR and the Hailey Fire Department are going well. Today, this partnership provides Hailey with 24/7 fire and EMS staffing, shared resources, and regional coordination. However, the current joint-operations structure was not designed to be a permanent funding model.

Our goal is to build one countywide, consolidated fire department that operates, trains, and staffs together to better serve our community.

Annexing Hailey Fire into the Fire Protection District would provide a long-term organizational and funding structure for continuing the 24/7 service Hailey residents are experiencing today.

Without annexation, Hailey is expected to return to a volunteer/paid-on-call model in FY28 while another long-term funding solution is developed.

🚒You may be familiar with the word annexation but what does it actually mean?

Annexation would bring Hailey Fire into the Blaine County South Fire Protection District, currently operating as Blaine County Fire & Rescue (BCFR). Today, Hailey and the regional fire and EMS agencies already operate together under a joint powers agreement, however annexation would change the organizational and funding structure but making hailey part of the fire protection district and allow for continued 24/7 staffing.

🚒 One district. One union. One team.

October 1st marks an important milestone for our organization and our community. On this day, Ketchum Fire District and BC South Fire Protection District will officially consolidate to form the Blaine County Fire District, operating as Blaine County Fire & Rescue.

We are incredibly grateful to finally reach this landmark moment. This consolidation is the result of years of hard work, collaboration, and dedication from so many people who helped bring this vision to life.

Every day, we strive to become better for our community and the greater Wood River Valley, and this is one more step in that direction.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this possible. We are excited for what the future holds as one department, united in our commitment to serving our community.

Hailey voters will decide on November 3rd whether the city joins the new district, and we encourage everyone to vote yes.

El 1 de octubre marca un momento importante para nuestra organización y nuestra comunidad. En esta fecha, Ketchum Fire District y BC South Fire Protection District se consolidarán oficialmente para formar el Blaine County Fire District, que operará como Blaine County Fire & Rescue.

Estamos increíblemente agradecidos de haber llegado finalmente a este momento histórico. Esta consolidación es el resultado de años de trabajo, colaboración y dedicación por parte de muchas personas que ayudaron a hacer realidad esta visión.

✅On Nov. 3rd, Hailey voters will decide whether the city of Hailey's fire service should become part of the Blaine County South Fire Protection District, now operating as Blaine County Fire and Rescue.

But what does that actually mean? If approved Hailey Fire Department would move from a separate City department to being a part of the consolidated Blaine County Fire and Rescue District (Formerly known as BC South) allowing them to oversee and fund Hailey's Fire Service.

Annexation would allow for full-time 24/7 staffing in Hailey vs. the current volunteer model, help coordinate firefighters and emergency response across the region, and allow for shared equipment training, and specialized services.
