We connect Idahoans with local food - and support ranchers, farmers, and producers with the resources they need to thrive. Let's nourish the future together!

We envision a vibrant future where every community is nourished by a just and resilient local food system—one that honors the land, supports regenerative agriculture, and ensures healthy, affordable food is available to all. Our mission is to transform southern Idaho’s food system by connecting people to local food, supporting regional producers, and fostering vibrant, resilient communities. Future Roots makes a significant on-the-ground impact through their dynamic programmatic activities. To inspire individuals and households to choose local food, Future Roots publishes 3,000 copies of its Locally Grown Guide annually. The organization facilitates the diversion of food waste from local landfills each year through its school composting initiatives, with 18,000 pounds diverted to date. It invests in a more resilient food system with $407,000 deployed to support six regional food businesses. Additionally, the organization connects the regional food system by cataloging and mapping over 390 hard infrastructure food system assets. Whether you're a farmer, a food business, or someone who just loves fresh, local ingredients, there's a place for everyone in this work.

Mountain Towns 2030 annual Climate Summit is underway today and tomorrow here in Sun Valley! Future Roots is proud to be an Ally Partner of this incredible event, connecting small tourist communities across the intermountain west who have big climate goals. Our Executive Director, Amy Mattias, spoke this morning in a panel highlighting local circularity efforts in agriculture and beyond!

Join us for the second annual Root Sellers on Saturday, November 14, from 10am–2pm at The Sage School Campus, 1810 Quigley Farm Rd., Hailey.

Root Sellers is a festive fall gathering to celebrate the harvest, connect with community, and stock up for winter.

What to do at Root Sellers!

Stock up on late season crops and fill your root cellar, pantry, and freezer with produce, meats, grains, and value-added goods grown and crafted by southern Idaho producers.

Enjoy seasonal prepared foods from local vendors.

Learn new skills in workshops taught by local producers.

Engage the whole family in food and agricultural themed activities.

Today is the final Wood River Farmers Markets of the season and it’s a beautiful day to shop local! You’ll find abundant harvests, beautiful flowers, delicious baked goods, amazing skincare, and so much more. Plus you can say hi to our staff and test your botanical knowledge! October is when the valley really starts to settle into autumn, and even though the farmers market is ending soon, local food in season is still abundant! Squashes, onions, garlic, delicious fruits, greens, cruciferous and root vegetables are all in season.

The farmers market season is coming to an end (Oct 3 in Hailey & Oct 7 in Ketchum) but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep eating local. Lettuce and leafy greens from local farms are a great option for new and long time local food eaters. Nourish Me is a good source for local produce, meat, eggs & dairy. Stop by and pick up a bag of Squash Blossom Farm lettuce mix and arugula!

Scott and Anne Mason opened their first restaurant, Ketchum Grill, in 1991. Since then, they have been tirelessly committed to cultivating a vibrant restaurant community in the Wood River Valley, built on a foundation of fresh, seasonal ingredients. Through their culinary ventures, including Ketchum Grill, , Town Square Tavern, Mason Family Provisions, and Mason Family Catering, they have remained dedicated to partnering with small regional farmers and ranchers.

Their leadership has been instrumental in advancing the local food movement and supporting the success of Future Roots. Today, the baton has been passed to the next generation, their daughters, Adelaide and Lyndsey, who continue to champion regional foods through the family businesses. We are thrilled that Scott has joined the Future Roots board, lending his extensive food service expertise to help advance our vision.

The are a Platinum Radish Status Business Member. We are deeply grateful for their ongoing support of our work and their commitment to building a thriving regional food system.
