🌲Kahakapao Krew Trail Day 🌲

Join Sierra Club Maui, Nā Ala Hele, and our longtime partners at the Maui Mountain Bike Coalition for our next volunteer trail maintenance day at Kahakapao Forest Reserve!

📅 Saturday, June 13
⏰ 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

For the past two years, volunteers have come together nearly every month to help maintain and restore Kahakapao’s trail system through muddy conditions, storms, erosion repair, drainage work, and countless hours of debris removal. What started as a small stewardship effort has grown into a strong community collaboration focused on caring for one of Maui’s most loved forest trail systems.

This month we’ll continue post-storm cleanup and trail restoration work. No experience necessary — just come ready to help mālama the forest and get a little muddy!

Nā Ala Hele will provide tools. Please bring:
🥾 Closed-toe shoes
💧 Water
☀️ Sun/rain protection
🧤 Gloves if you have them

Due to the powerful approaching storms, all camping areas on Oʻahu, Maui and Molokaʻi will be closed beginning Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 1 a.m. until further notice.

The National Weather Service advises that storm impacts, particularly Friday and Saturday, are expected to be severe and may continue beyond Sunday, March 15.

DLNR is asking for everyone’s cooperation with all announcements of area closures. People are advised to avoid forested and coastal areas due to the dangers of rising streams, flash flooding, falling trees, storm surge or high surf. Emergency response or rescue from these areas may be delayed.

Individuals with lodging (cabin) reservations will be contacted directly by the State Parks district offices to discuss options, which may include continued stay.

Refunds will be credited to the accounts of anyone who misses camping nights due to storm closures.

Residents and visitors can find information on preparations and safety precautions for heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, power outages, large surf and coastal surge on the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency (https://dod.hawaii.gov/hiema/) and county emergency management agencies’ websites.

Join us for Lahaina Pali Trail and Beyond, a community conversation about the future of the Lahaina Pali Trail and the Māʻalaea Mauka / Pōhākea lands.

Thirty years ago, volunteers from Sierra Club Maui partnered with Nā Ala Hele to restore the historic Lahaina Pali Trail from Pāpalaua to Māʻalaea. As Sierra Club Maui begins its 50th anniversary year, we’re gathering community voices to help shape the next 30 years of stewardship for this beloved place.
