As we approach the one-year mark of the Maui fires, we are reminded of the incredible strength and resilience that define our community. The past year has been a testament to our ability to rise above adversity and support one another through the challenges we’ve faced.

In the midst of the trials and the rebuilding, it is the love and solidarity of our community that have guided us forward. We have shown that, even in the face of such hardship, our spirit remains unbreakable. Together, we have worked to heal, to rebuild, and to emerge stronger than ever.

This anniversary is not only a time to remember and honor what we have endured but also a moment to celebrate the collective effort that has brought us to where we are today. It is a reminder of our capacity to overcome, to find hope in the darkest times, and to forge ahead with unwavering determination.

As we continue on this path of recovery, let us hold close the lessons we’ve learned and the connections we’ve forged. May we continue to support and uplift one another, drawing strength from our shared experiences and the love that binds us together.

Here’s to our ongoing journey of healing and to the bright future that lies ahead, built on the foundation of our unity and compassion. Together, we rise, we heal, and we shine.

Big mahalo to Skelefin Studios for creating this beautiful mural and Praying Pelican Missions who assisted us with our last Giggle HIll Workday!

Exciting news!!! HCA, Maui County, Surfrider, and the University of Hawai’i Water Resources Research Center have teamed up to assess the water quality in important Haiku streams. Given the diverse uses and the lack of existing data, this initiative will be crucial for understanding and managing the health of these water resources.

If you are interested in accessing our complete set of data, for all sites and all measurements since the beginning of the project, visit the link below.

We will be adding additional streams to test, so if you have suggestions of streams in the Haiku area, please let us know! Email our Haiku Community Project Manager at [email protected].

Many streams in the Haiku area (from Maliko Gulch to Ke’anae) are used recreationally as well as for domestic or agricultural purposes, but very little is known about the quality of the water…
