It is with a very heavy heart that I share that Larry Barron, passed away yesterday at the age of 83.

His service will be held Monday, August 18, 2025 at 6 pm at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 7 pm, also at Fiery Funeral Home.

Interment will be private.

📣 On this Juneteenth, we remember. We honor. We recommit.

On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally told they were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is not just a celebration of freedom — it’s a call to continue the fight for racial and economic justice.

✊🏾 Black workers have always been at the heart of the labor movement: leading strikes, organizing in the face of oppression, and demanding dignity on the job and in the streets.

As union members, we know the struggle didn’t end with emancipation. The fight continues for:

💼 Equal pay
🩺 Accessible healthcare
🏫 Quality public education
⚖️ Safe, fair workplaces
✊ The right to organize without fear

Today, we recommit to building a labor movement rooted in solidarity, equity, and justice for all working people.

Let us celebrate freedom.
Let us remember the cost.
And let us keep marching forward — together.

We are heartbroken to share that yesterday one of our organizers, Niya Banks, suddenly passed away. Niya was a fearless fighter for workers and had an incredible impact on the Union and all of the lives she touched. She will be deeply, deeply missed. We ask that the privacy of the family be respected during this difficult time.
