A Vision In the Making

Mission Six Eight is in the visionary stages currently. The dream of Connections Six Eight (a progressive, open and affirming faith community in the United Church of Christ tradition) is to create a separate nonprofit Community Development Corporation (CDC) to be the social justice arm of our community. As a separate nonprofit, it will be able to strengthen the already social justice driven activity of our faith community.

Six Eight in Connections Six Eight and in Mission Six Eight references the scripture, Micah 6:8, where we are told that to please God we must act justly towards all people, love all people, and to walk humbly before God. This is the mission of our faith, the mission of our faith community, and the mission of Mission Six Eight. In the New Testament, Christ reiterates this mission by summing up all of the commandments into two simple commands based on love: To love God, and to love our neighbors as we desire to be loved (no exceptions as to which neighbors we love are included in these commands, simply to love any and all).

Hospitality (i.e. common courtesy, respect, or love) to all people especially the stranger is a core theme throughout the scriptures of Christianity and all faiths, but yet we somehow find a way to overlook this central theme and bicker among ourselves about petty differences.

The mission of Mission Six Eight is to empower our community, city, state, country, and world showing love and compassion to everyone especially the stranger, oppressed, and marginalized.
