Dusty Graham and the WMHC Therapeutic garden committee thanked those who support our endeavors at the hospital by working in the gardens on the Day of Caring.

Dusty said, “We had a few new people, and quite a few of our “regulars" returned, which is great. They are all such hard workers and dedicated to helping our cause. We strive to provide a place for the patients, staff, and community to enjoy the gardens and find a peaceful place."

30 May 2026 jpeg 4838 On the day ARC came to the Western Maryland Therapeutic Gardens, at the other end of the gardens, the Employee Engagement Committee held a hot dog sale. Amy from Medical Records, Debbie from Social Work, Kareem from Quality and Matt from Rec Therapy prepared for the sale. Staff from the hospital came outside to buy a hot dog or two. As well as potato chips, a cookie and a drink.

These fundraisers raise money so that the committee can offer activities for employees at Western Maryland. These activities recognize the work of the different departments and show appreciation for their work.

Some of their activities are:
a picnic in the summer,
pumpkin decoration in the fall and
Christmas celebration with a December party.

The gardens are open to staff and patients and families of Western Maryland Hospital Center. The local community is also invited to enjoy the peace and beauty of the gardens.

Last Friday, there was a half day of school at the elementary school next to Western Maryland Hospital Center. Children who lived nearby left school and raced down Pennsylvania Ave. They ran into Western Maryland grounds; headed for the pond. They were looking for the fish and tadpoles who lived there among the water lilies. Just as quickly, they ran away when the light changed and the crossing guard held back traffic for them. Next, more quietly, two older boys came to the pond, also looking for the fish. They also left when the light turned green to cross Pennsylvania Avenue, safely So many people enjoy the Western Maryland Hospital Center Therapeutic Gardens. These magical moments brought memories of the excitement and wonder of childhood.
