**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
**Hagerstown Area Police Athletic League Board Members Address Former Treasurer's Charges**
It is with deep sadness and disappointment that the Board Members of the Hagerstown Area Police Athletic League (PAL) announce that our former treasurer, Kimberly Buchanan alias Kimberly Reed, a non-law enforcement community volunteer that served as treasurer since 2017, has been charged with theft from our organization, amounting to $40,080.19. This news comes as a shock to all of us who have dedicated ourselves to promoting the well-being of our local youth through sports and other programming.
The Board of Directors is committed to maintaining the integrity of our volunteer organization and is taking this matter very seriously. After identifying this fraudulent activity in January of this year, we immediately reported it to the authorities and fully cooperated with them while they conducted their investigation. This investigation resulted in a criminal indictment issued on March 26, 2025. The funds in question were intended to support our programs, which provide essential resources and opportunities for young individuals in our community.
As a board, we want to reassure our community, our members, and our supporters that we remain committed to transparency and accountability. We are actively reviewing our financial practices and implementing measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Our mission to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and youth is more important than ever, and we will continue to uphold the values that guide our organization.
We are grateful for the continued support from our community as we navigate this difficult situation. Our focus remains on serving the youth of Hagerstown and ensuring that our programs continue to thrive.
