Club History: Organized January 14, 1915 - Chartered June 1, 1915, Hagerstown Rotary Club follows the important motto of Service Above Self and believes in the importance of giving back to the community we live and work in. Through the development of fundraisers over the years, donations, and countless hours donated by the members, we are able to give back thousands and thousands of dollars through grants to community organizations.

• Rotarians are adults of good character and good business or professional reputation.

• Rotary is a service club. It is the oldest and most prestigious service club in the world. Becoming a Rotarian gives you the richly rewarding opportunity to do something for somebody else. Membership in a Rotary club makes you a better community citizen and consists of the most active citizens of their communities. These communities span
all around the world with over 33,000 clubs in over 200 nations and geographical regions.

• As a Rotarian you have the opportunity to serve by volunteering locally, regionally, and globally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace and eradicate polio under the motto “Service Above Self”.

• One of the most basic human needs is that of friendship and fellowship. It is one of the important reasons why Rotary began in 1905.

• Business Development and networking was the second original reason for the beginning of Rotary. Everyone needs to network and Rotary consists of a cross section of every business community with members from all walks of life. They are leaders of business and various professions from art, government & military, religion, all disciplines and the professions. Rotary develops confidence as well as public speaking skills in its Rotarians through its networking and public communication opportunities.

• FUN: The service, social aspects and club projects are fun and enjoyable. Who wouldn’t want to have the opportunity to have fun, network, build lasting relationships and serve their community?!?!

The Hagerstown Rotary Club is pleased to introduce our newest member, Shelby Aikens, pictured with her sponsors, Jim Kercheval and Paul Frey.

Shelby is a Business Development Manager at Manpower with a passion for supporting clients with their talent needs. She loves spending time bringing her design visions to life as well as camping and relaxing with family and friends. Shelby joined Rotary because she wants to give back to our local community and live out the Rotary motto of Service Above Self. She can't wait to work alongside such inspiring leaders, build new friendships, and make a meaningful impact.

Everyone please extend a warm Rotarian welcome to Shelby!

We're getting excited for this Friday's Project Playhouse with Habitat ReStore - Washington County!

Our team is gearing up to build and design a Minecraft-themed playhouse, and we already know the lucky kiddos who receive it are going to be absolutely thrilled. From pixel-inspired details to creative touches, we're ready to bring a little imagination and adventure to life.

We're also looking for two more Rotarians to join us and help make this project a success. If you're interested in lending a hand and making a difference for a local family, please reach out to Jimmy Hill or Matt Ranieli!

Let's build something amazing together!

The Sunrise Rotary-Hagerstown is seeking sponsors for the Flag for Heroes program! Be part of our community’s tribute to past or present heroes in our lives. By sponsoring an American flag you can honor a member of the military, police, fire or other first responders who put their lives on the line for us every day. Perhaps a special nurse, teacher, mentor, coach or community leader, or someone who has inspired you could be your hero. A flag in their honor says they’re remembered and appreciated.

Your flag will be flying in a `field of flags’ on display at Long Meadows Rotary Park on Northern Avenue beginning Saturday, May 16th. Each flag will have a tag displaying donor’s name and the name of their hero. A ceremony to celebrate the contributions of the heroes is planned for Saturday, May 23rd at the park. All heroes and sponsors will be recognized in our program.

To request more information or to request a sponsorship form go to [email protected]

DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING HEROES OR SPONSORSHIPS IS MAY 8, 2026.

Every year, our field of flags represents heroes—someone who made a difference in someone’s life. A parent, a veteran, a teacher, a friend. Some are with us, and some are remembered—but every one of them matters.
We would like you to be part of this tribute.
By sponsoring a flag, you can honor your own hero in a meaningful and visible way. And as you do, you’re also supporting the work our Rotary Club does to serve this community and beyond.
If you’re a business or organization, we also welcome your support as an event sponsor—helping us grow this display and share even more stories of heroism.
It only takes one flag to tell a powerful story.
We hope you’ll join us—honor your hero, support this mission, and help us fill this field with stories that deserve to be seen.

To request more information or to request a sponsorship form go to [email protected]
DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING HEROES OR SPONSORSHIPS IS MAY 8, 2026.

Chair of Flags for Heroes
