I had the pleasure of work with Rodney Tissue ..
Mayor Tekesha Martinez, with the support of the City Council, expresses appreciation to Rodney Tissue for his dedication, commitment and exceptional public service. We congratulate you on your retirement and wish you continued success in all your future endeavors.
Rodney Tissue began his career with the City of Hagerstown as Assistant City Engineer on July 20, 1992 and was promoted to City Engineer August 13, 2001.
Rodney was instrumental in many accomplishments during his tenure; Creation of seven new public parks and full-time City Recreation Program, Fairgrounds Park redevelopment, overseeing multi-million dollar infrastructure projects including the Arts & Entertainment District parking deck, reconstruction of Eastern Blvd. North, Jonathan Street, Broadfording Road, and Wesel Blvd., as well as the construction of University Plaza adjacent to University of Maryland Hagerstown campus; and,
In 2020, Rodney was nominated for the Maryland Municipal League’s Lifetime Achievement Award due to his outstanding record of service to municipal government and residents of the City of Hagerstown; and,
Rodney was responsible for a number of “Firsts” to make Hagerstown a more livable city. These achievements include the forming of a Bicycle Advisory Committee creating the City’s Bicycle Master Plan and Hub City Bicycle Loop, the City’s first dog park at Fairgrounds Park, the Community Gardens, Public Art Commission and residential recycling program for City residents; and,
Rodney’s most significant project was the design and construction of the half-mile long multi-use Cultural Trail connecting the Arts & Entertainment District with City Park and passing by the Mural of Unusual Size. As a result of Rodney’s hard work and dedication, the Cultural Trail earned the 2017 Best Product or Event – Large Category Award from the Maryland Tourism Commission and appointed Rodney as a member of the Maryland Commission on Public Art under Governor Larry Hogan’s leadership; and,
Rodney Tissue will retire from the City of Hagerstown effective March 31, 2023.
