The Gift of Sport has now mostly transitioned over to being a club at HMHS. In the process, we still had some already raised funds left to distribute. We were thrilled to be able to provide 5 pairs of softball cleats and 6 new softball gloves to LEAP Academy University School. A number of their athletes did not have their own equipment necessary to compete, and now they do. Wishing these athletes a successful and happy spring season!

A HUGE shoutout headed to 3 Dimensional Physical Therapy for their incredibly generous and overwhelmingly meaningful donation! We appreciate you recognizing the importance of what we do! As The Gift of Sport transitions into a club at HMHS, we are looking for ways to grow and to maintain our ability to support athletes in our neighboring community of Camden. This donation is going to go a long way in helping us to achieve those goals! Giving Tuesday Raffle Winner Announcement 📢 !! Winner of the Haddonfield Basket valued at $600 is ALISON RYNKAR! Winner of the Spartow’s Basket valued at $45 is MEGAN GRIFFAULT ! Thank you to EVERYONE who donated yesterday! The Gift of Sport was able to raise just over $1000 with your help! This past weekend Finnley and two fellow classmates and friends went around downtown Haddonfield. They discussed with local businesses our annual Giving Tuesday event, in which we create a basket to be raffled off to members of the Haddonfield Community in order to collect donations. Many businesses were able to help the Gift of Sport by donating goods from their store to be put into the raffle basket, and we are beyond thankful for all of the help and participation! It’s that time of year!! Finnley is getting ready to roll out her fundraising efforts for 2025 to help support student athletes in Camden both now and also into 2026! We always start with a soft launch to get things rolling, and then we focus our efforts on Giving Tuesday. There will be a local raffle basket opportunity again for those interested/donating from in and around the Haddonfield area. Finn will be out speaking to local businesses in the coming days to bring that to fruition, and that raffle will take place on / around Giving Tuesday! Also, Finnley is working hard to pilot The Gift of Sport club at her high school to both grow her efforts and keep them going after she graduates in 2027. The Gift of Sport recently donated 10 pairs of soccer shin guards, two volleyballs, and a volleyball rebounder to LEAP Academy University School! Finn was happy being able to provide needed equipment to these athletes for their fall sports season!

On Memorial Day, UrbanPromise arranged for the Gift of Sport to have a guided walking and driving tour of their campus and of the city of Camden. We had the pleasure of engaging with Tam, Tony, and Brent for this outing. Tam and Tony are both alums that are also on staff at UrbanPromise, so they were amazing guides of Camden and
messengers of the impact of the organization. This tour provided us a better perspective on the neighborhoods and families served by UrbanPromise. It is important and meaningful to get at least a more tangible surface level understanding of the area, circumstances, and surroundings of these UrbanPromise youth. And, on the flip side, it was great to also discover, as Tam writes, “Camden is a city of strength, history, and resilience-often overlooked, yet filled with activists, poets, and explorers. At UrbanPromise we invest in young people, equipping them with the tools, opportunities, and mentorship to shape their futures.” The Gift of Sport is pleased to support (even in the smallest of ways) their great work through by donating to their athletic and experiential learning opportunities! We are blessed to get to know this organization and community on a deeper level to better understand the impact that support like ours (and yours!!) can make! Want to make a difference? Experiential Learning, Involvement, Action!

Last night The Gift of Sport was honored to attend The Experience at the Boat Shop, presented by . This event took place in & around one of their “classrooms” in the Waterfront South neighborhood in Camden. The event was led by staff / members (including alumni) of UrbanPromise as well as by their students.

The Gift of Sport recently donated equipment and funds to various “athletic” type programs at UrbanPromise, & this event gave us the direct opportunity to personally see how these donations help, who they are impacting, & the “why” behind how it all matters.

At the heart of these programs is experiential learning. When students have a personal stake in a project, the project matters and learning is natural. (Knowing & computing with fractions becomes important when you are the one building a boat from scratch, & you know that you will eventually be launching & paddling that boat!) It was awesome to see & hear about these staff & student experiences & also to learn directly from them as they led us through leadership & building exercises. You can FEEL how this incredible program of experiential learning benefits these kids & extends as they explore through real-world leadership opportunities.

Finnley made notes about her time last night, which included: “The reason we ‘do’ is so we can help.” “It’s always important to persevere despite what others do to you or tell you.” And, my favorite and probably the most important, “Our God-given purpose is to help others.”

Giving is amazing. Being directly involved is an even better extension of that gift. We are so grateful to have made such wonderful connections & look forward to being even more engaged! This is all possible thanks to YOUR wonderful donations!!

MORE DONATIONS MADE! MORE ATHLETES HAVE WHAT THEY NEED!

Recently at church we had the pleasure of listening to a guest-sermon given by Bruce Main, Founder and President of UrbanPromise. UrbanPromise is a non-profit whose “…mission is to equip Camden’s children and young adults with the skills necessary for academic achievement, life management, spiritual growth, and Christian leadership” At the same service, we also had the pleasure of hearing directly from some students about their personal experiences with all that UrbanPromise has to offer.

After worship, Finnley approached and spoke with two of the Directors (Jennifer and Brent) from UrbanPromise. Finn wanted to introduce herself and speak with them about The Gift of Sport. We felt that it would be a nice connection to make, and we also hoped that there might be a way that The Gift of Sport could help support their mission. Jennifer and Brent were both so attentive and kind to Finnley. They told us that they would do some digging to see if there were ways in which they could utilize our offerings.

UrbanPromise’s mission is not focused on sports, of course. However, they do incorporate sports into and as a part of their curriculum. Jennifer and Brent shared that they offer cycling as an elective for their high school students, as well as paddling as a part of both their BoatWorks program and also a summer paddling program. In addition, they have a rec basketball program run by the VP of the school and a volunteer coach. We learned that these programs did have needs, and we were happy to go about finding a way to support them.

It took a bit of time to coordinate everything, but today The Gift of Sport was proudly able to deliver the following to UrbanPromise: eight 48” paddles, eight 60” paddles, 15 bike helmets, 20 tire repair kits, and 3 air pumps! In addition, we were able to donate $1150 to directly cover the costs for the year for the rec basketball program (including registration fees, jerseys, etc).

As always, we want to thank our donors who make our mission of supporting Camden youth athletes, such as the ones at UrbanPromise, possible! We are also grateful to have made another Camden connection, especially one that aligns so well with our values and goals.
