What a great way to wrap up National Farmers' Market Week!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the CT Veteran Farmers’ Market in Rocky Hill to visit with CT RC&D and learn about CT Veteran Grown! We enjoyed connecting with Veterans, farmers, families, and community members while sharing the programs and resources available to support agriculture, conservation, and local communities across Connecticut.

Farmers’ markets are more than places to buy fresh, local food. They are gathering places that strengthen local economies, support our agricultural producers, and build lasting community connections.

A special thank you to the organizers, vendors, volunteers, and everyone who made this year’s market another success.

Ask Us Anything: Prepare Your Soil Health for 2027

Summer harvest is in full swing, but the decisions you make now can have a major impact on your soil next season and beyond. Join us for an informal Ask Us Anything panel focused on preparing your fields for strong soil health in 2027. Bring your questions about:
• Cover cropping
• Mulching
• Soil amendments
• Tarping
• Bed preparation
• Other fall soil management decisions

The panelists– including a farmer from Assawaga Farm, conservation professional, and Extension educator– are ready to discuss the challenges and opportunities you're thinking through as the season winds down. This is a farmer-driven conversation. There will be no presentations or prepared remarks. Moderators will help get the discussion started, but participant questions will be the priority. Join for the full session or drop in to ask a question and head back to the farm.

This event is presented through a collaboration between American Farmland Trust - New England, Connecticut Resource Conservation & Development - CT RC&D, UConn Extension, and U.S. Department of Agriculture USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. While this event is focused on Connecticut farming conditions, farmers from any state are welcome to attend. This session will not be recorded.

Join us this Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at the Connecticut Veterans Affairs Campus, 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, as we celebrate National Farmers Week while supporting Connecticut's veteran farmers with Connecticut Department of Agriculture.

The CT Veteran Grown Farmers' Market is a wonderful opportunity to connect with local growers, shop fresh, locally grown products, and recognize the contributions of our veteran farming community.

Are you interested in making a difference in your community while earning a stipend?

The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (SECOG) is seeking two stipend-supported Community Liaison positions for the EPA Brownfields Coalition Grant to support local outreach, engagement, and community input related to redevelopment planning.

There are two target areas:
📍16 Halls Mill Road in Preston, CT — A historic former wool mill in Preston’s Hallville Village, this 12.67-acre property is being assessed for potential environmental concerns while exploring future redevelopment opportunities.

📍130 Inland Road, Sprague, CT — A 420-acre former paper mill property in Sprague, this site is being evaluated for potential environmental contamination and future redevelopment opportunities.

What a great night in downtown Willimantic!

CT RC&D had a fantastic time connecting with the community at the Willimantic's 3rd Thursday Street Fest alongside the Air Line State Park Trail Alliance and our amazing partners. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about our programs and the work we’re doing across Connecticut.

A special thank you to Willimantic Renaissance for organizing another outstanding Street Fest and for being such welcoming, supportive hosts. We appreciate all the work that goes into creating such a fun community event!
