Celia Cruz’s 100th Birthday: A Global Tribute to the Queen of Salsa

Born in Havana in 1925, Celia Cruz became a powerhouse of Latin music and a symbol of Afro-Cuban pride. Her voice, banned in Cuba, still reached hearts worldwide. This year has been her centennial celebration with concerts, exhibits and a memorial mass in Havana—despite decades of censorship. Her iconic “¡Azúcar!” lives on as a shout of joy, resistance, and cultural pride.

We’re celebrating Latino excellence!

On October 10, our very own Que Pasa TV host, Carlos Medina, received an El Award from El Diario Nueva York. He wasn’t alone—Tony Award-winning choreographer Sergio Trujillo was also honored that evening.

Carlos and Sergio reconnected and shared exciting updates about Sergio’s latest work: the upcoming film Kiss of the Spider Woman, choreographed by him and starring Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna, and Tonatiuh.

We’re proud to share these moments with our community and highlight the achievements of Latinos making history in arts, culture, and entertainment.
