Come Cool Off Resource Center Open-House Wrap Up:

🏠 On Wednesday we welcomed neighbors and the greater community to our Resource Center within the Elizabeth McGill Drop-In Center for cool refreshments, weatherproofing supplies, and an introduction to our tool lending library. We valued every conversation and opportunity to equip families with supplies to protect their home environment against the summer heat. ☀️

👏 We're SO GRATEFUL to OG&E staff for joining us at Come Cool Off, providing 48 OG&E Weatherization kits for local families. You might remembering seeing OG&E at our April Earth Day celebration in the Antioch for Youth & Family Discovery Garden. Their kits complement the weatherproofing materials we have available. 💚We love partnering to support local families in making their homes more comfortable, lowering utility bills, and taking a load off the grid.

🎉It just so happened that the FS Lincoln High School Alumni Association was also hosting an event in the McGill Center on Wednesday. We really appreciated connecting with these local leaders and letting them know about our Resource Center services.

It's been a hot summer, but there's still plenty growin' on with our projects at the Antioch for Youth & Family Discovery Garden. Check out this photo spread of the raised beds, pollinator garden and adopt-a-spots!

Our Raised Bed area classroom has some stubborn weeds poking their heads out of the ground, but mulch is ready to go down and block the sun. Ms. Mary's flowers and peppers in the raised beds are in full bloom.

The Adopt-A-Spot participants are in various stages, using different methods for in-ground gardening and bringing in some cool techniques, like growing within an aged oak trunk.

The pollinator garden keeps coming alive! Folks with The Diana Project have laid down plastic to help prep the soil for next year, but they've already planted Diana friendly berry bushes.

And don't forget, neighbors nearby are welcome to use the FREE recycling bin for Fort Smith Glass Pickup service, sponsored by Yogaterrium!

We have two great events coming up and would love to see you there!

🪟8/26 Come Cool Off, enjoy cool treats and pick up weatherproofing supplies, if you need them. At our Resource Center within the Elizabeth McGill Drop-In Center 521 N. 6th Street. 11-2 p.m This is a great chance to experience first hand our Healthy Homes and Neighborhoods program.

😂 9/20 Join us for Comedy, Cheesecake and Coffee with Fort Smith comedian Sam Price from 4:30 - 6:30. Early Bird Tickets $18 until 9/1. Then $20.
