Bronzed Booties
w/the Holy Spirit

Hidden deep in the budbreak
atop the maple standing tall
over the birthplace house,
every spring you’re sure to hear
the Eastern Wood-Pewee
shout to passersby:
“Hey, you!”
And with attention obtained,
the flycatcher of some renown,
then plaintively commands:
“Come here!”
That’s when you know,
the owner of the bronzed booties
likely heard the same call,
and as did he, we learn
this is the place to be.*
Jeff Rogers, RPW Birthplace Executive Director

*The Robert Penn Warren Birthplace Museum, 122 Cherry Street, Guthrie, KY
