🍎 We had a great afternoon at the Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library learning all about apples and orchards! 🍎

We read a book that talked about how apples grow, and took advantage of the beautiful weather by heading outside for apple printing. After creating some colorful apple art, everyone came back inside for an apple taste test where they sampled Gala, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith apples and voted for their favorite.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for a fun afternoon of learning, creativity, and delicious apples!

Last week at the Mary J. Barnett Library, youth learned all about pollinators with Grace Tigges from Guthrie County Farm Bureau! 🐝🦋🦇 Kids discovered how bees, butterflies, and bats help agriculture and the environment, then got creative making their own pollinator crafts to take home.

Next up, Grace will be back on June 25 with a “What is a Seed?” lesson, another hands-on program where kids will learn how seeds grow and why they’re so important in agriculture. 🌱

Being named an Iowa Governor’s Scholar is an incredible accomplishment, and we are so proud to celebrate these students and all they have achieved throughout their high school careers. Two great days of farm safety with some awesome 3rd graders!

Students from local schools learned about grain safety, sun safety, electrical safety, ATV safety, PTO and tractor safety, and animal safety. Covering a wide range of important topics to help them stay safe on the farm.

At the PTO and tractor safety station, students gathered around a mini farm display and put their thinking skills to work by spotting unsafe situations. Beth Bornholdt and Grace Tigges guided them through real-life scenarios, helping them recognize hazards and make safer choices.

Jim Calvert also taught PTO and tractor safety, and students had the opportunity to climb into a tractor cab to see why checking your surroundings is so important before operating equipment.

A big thank you to Guthrie County ISU Extension & Outreach for inviting us to be part of this great learning experience.

Hi everyone! I am Grace Tigges and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Outreach Coordinator for Farm Bureau, serving both Audubon and Guthrie Counties.

I grew up in Carroll helping my grandpa on his farm, which is where my passion for agriculture really started . I am currently studying Agribusiness at DMACC and plan to graduate in May 2026.

I am looking forward to getting involved in the communities and meeting new people. Feel free to reach out anytime, I would love to connect!

🛒🏁 Grocery Cart Races for a Great Cause! 🏁🛒
We kicked off the day at Panora Hometown Foods with the Guthrie County Farm Bureau Grocery Cart Races! Eight teams competed to see who could get closest to $100 in groceries—all to raise food and funds for our local food pantries.
🏆 Teams who battled it out included:
• Guthrie County Corn Growers - WINNER
• Guthrie County Cattlemens Association
• Representative Carter Nordman
• Guthrie Center Methodist Church
• Bryton Insurance Agency
• AC/GC FFA
• Panorama Ffa
• West Central Valley FFA
Together, over $800 in groceries were donated to New Opportunities in Guthrie Center and Faith Bible Church in Panora—making a big impact right here in Guthrie County. Guthrie County Farm Bureau will match all donated items with donating funds to the local food pantries!
A special thank you to for sponsoring the FFA teams, and a huge shout‑out to Panora Hometown Foods & Panora Subway for hosting us (and being ready bright and early!).
Most of all, thank you to all the businesses, organizations, and teams who participated. Your generosity helps fill pantry shelves and support our neighbors in need! ❤️
