We want to introduce to our friend, Mikey Garcia! Mikey is a 15 year old young man from our hometown of Gustine. Mikey is a kind, hard working and resilient young man who in the last year had a tragic turn of events occur in his life. We appreciate Beto and Adriana Garcia for being so willing to share their son Mikey’s story with our community.
On July 2, 2022 Mikey’s parents got a phone call that all parents dread. Mikey was in an all terrain vehicle and was hit by another vehicle . Mikey took the brunt of the accident. His parents arrived on scene to Mikey being unresponsive. Mikey was airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. His parents received news from the doctors that things did not look good . Mikey had an open femur fracture, fractured collar bone, collapsed lung, broken wrist, broken ankle, facial fractures , neck fracture , intracranial hematoma and diffuse axonal brain injury. This particular brain injury is often fatal or in most cases leaves a person in a vegetative state .
On August 26th 2022, Mikey’s parents experienced a huge sense of relief that they have been waiting for. Mikey woke up from a 2 month coma. The staff at Vally Children’s Hospital didn’t just do their job, they went above and beyond to provide their family with support and encouragement. Mikey has beat all odds and he CONTINUES to improve on a daily a basis. Mikey has re-learned to talk, walk, run and now even drive! His go-getter spirit and zest for life will continue to allow Mikey to improve.
Mikey was in the PICU and Rehabilitation Department during his time at Valley Children’s Hospital. The Garcia family has an immense amount of respect and appreciation for the staff at Valley Children’s Hospital. We appreciate all the support our community provides that allows us to collectively come together and raise money for such a wonderful cause.
We are honored to be recognizing such a wonderful young man who has benefited from Valley Children’s Hospital . We feel blessed to continue to work together with our community and help families like Mikey. We hope you can join us on June 24th and be a part of the cause. It’s for the kids!
