🐄 Alabama Junior Cattlemen’s Association held their north field day today at Bar V Genetics in Blountsville, AL. Marshall County was represented!

💥We learned about AI (not the artificial intelligence kind), cattle ultrasounding, pulled a calf, took a blood sample, judged some cattle and seen a beautiful Brangus/Ultrablack cattle operation.

What a week!!
We had 4-H Club meetings and elected officers at Arab Junior High, Guntersville High, Cherokee Elementary, Asbury High, Albertville Intermediate and DAR High.

We hosted our regional 4-H Hiking Club at the state park, had our first 4-H Horse Club meeting of the year, had our first Roots Up Ag club meeting, hosted our Northeast 4-H Region for five industry tours on Wednesday, hosted our annual 4-H Beef & Chick Chain shows on Thursday and wrapped up the week with an orchard tour on Saturday.

It sure is great to be a part of the Marshall County 4-H Family!

Our first farm tour for Marshall County 4-H “From the Roots Up” agricultural club was held this morning at Scott's Orchard in Hazel Green, AL with a focus on our topic of the month for September, apples! 🍏 🍎

Our group was made up of enrolled 4-H members and their families. We went on a ride through the orchard and learned the history of the farm, how apples are grown, tree care, the storing process and how they are packed for delivery. We ended our tour with a 1/4 peck bag to u-pick our very own apples to take home and enjoy. Some even hung around and picked a few more!

Next month our topic will be pumpkins 🎃 and agritourism. We will have a classroom session on October 13th from 5:00-7:00 and our tour on October 17th. See you then!
