Everyone has a story.
And as I sit here meditating, I think about all the girls that have came through Mercy Home Ministries and their stories. I think about my mom, my mother in law, my close friends and their life stories. I think about my own, my grown children and my grandchildren’s life stories. I think about what all we have been through, suffered and endured but also what all we have over come and are overcoming.
We don’t get to choose our story. If we could wouldn’t we all choose the one where life is easy and each day is sunshine and sweet tea? Wouldn’t we wish happy endings for ourselves and everyone we love? But it isn’t our choice to make. We can however, choose God and choose to walk bravely wherever he leads. The reality is that life is hard for everyone. No one gets to choose the easy life. Life could be difficult for you, for me, and for the lady with the tired eyes in the cereal aisle. That waiter, who just poured your coffee may be struggling to make ends meet. Addiction, abandonment, loss of love ones, grief, loneliness, health declining, Illness, job loss, family hurts, and soul wounds visit all of us. And some leave the forever kind of scars, but we can still choose God and trust him with our story.
Our story in Him is one of letting go. We let go of the notion that we are the heroes in our stories. We realize instead that He is the hero and He came to save us. So we pushed through trials, devastations and heartaches. We may not have chosen our circumstances, but we are smitten with the Savior who urges us onward. We offer up our lives to the Author of our faith story, knowing that, in time all will be redeemed and restored. Think about Jesus Christ and all that He endured. He came in human form and experienced pain, rejection, betrayal, beaten, and crucified, suffering, and sacrifice beyond what most of us could ever imagine. Yet He willingly walked that path because of His love for us. He did it to save us, redeem us, and give us hope. When we face our own struggles, we can remember that He understands our pain, and because He overcame, we can find strength to keep moving forward in faith. So when life feels overwhelming, remember that the One who carried the cross walks beside you through every trial. Lean on Him, trust in Him.
