Gunnison Valley PPD & Perinatal Support

Gunnison Valley PPD & Perinatal Support This page was started in support of the mothers in the Gunnison Valley facing Postpartum Depression, anxiety and OCD. Please visit our Facebook group also.

Greetings! The Gunnison Valley PPD was originally started by Laura Sutton-Williams this is her story…
“I am a new mom to a wonderful, happy, healthy 18-month old baby boy. I am very lucky that I have the opportunity to work full-time from home, allowing me to spend time with and raise my child. Recently I watched a documentary about postpartum depression, anxiety and OCD. As I was watching this do

cumentary, I came to realize that I had most the symptoms they were talking about. I didn't have the "normal" postpartum depression but my anxiety and OCD symptoms just exploded after having my baby. After watching this documentary I realized that I am not alone, other women experience these feelings and challenges too. I then realized that we don't have a specific support group here in the Gunnison Valley for women struggling with postpartum depression, anxiety and/or OCD. I feel passionately about this cause and have decided that I am going to focus my efforts and energy to starting a support group focusing on postpartum depression, anxiety and the needs of mothers in the Gunnison Valley and surrounding areas.”

Laura started his support group to help women learn coping mechanisms like meditation and other healing tools. Not necessarily to get rid of the icky stuff, but to be able to feel okay again. Though she has since moved away from the Gunnison Valley, the need for PPD support remains.
