The VFW became a government-chartered non-profit organization by an act of the United States Congress on May 28, 1936; as such, it receives no funding from United States tax receipts and is supported by charitable donations. Members must be a US citizen or national with an honorable discharge from the US armed forces or currently serving in the United States, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or

Coast Guard. Membership also requires military service overseas during an operation or conflict and decoration with an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a campaign medal or ribbon.

This has been deemed an unofficial page for Post 4526 since new powers-to-be have changed the post many of us have loved and labored for through many years, so I have left it dormant for quite some time. I just feel that I have to make a comment or two. For as long as I can remember, the post held a free cookout on Veteran's Day for members, but all were welcome. Just found out they are selling food this year. Which is re****ed when so many restaurants give free meals on Veteran's Day. So, I guess it is now about the money rather than providing for the members that have already provided so much. I am also wondering how or why a non-member couple and one being a registered s*x offender are allowed to reside within the post hall? I could say more, but I guess I just want anyone that follows this page to maybe take a more scrutinous look at what used to be a place for Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Please come out and support your Post.

Today we remember the events of D-Day. 70 years ago today, the Allies of World War II launched the largest amphibious attack in history when more than 150,000 troops stormed the beaches of the French coastline. The operation was a victory for the Allies, but they suffered thousands of casualties.

The VFW honors and remembers all those who took part in D-Day. That day changed the course of the war, and ultimately changed the course of human history. Oppression and tyranny would be defeated and millions around Europe, and the world, would be liberated.

Remember and Honor the Fallen

Each Memorial Day, we stand united in remembrance and in grief. Gone from someone’s life is a son or daughter, a husband or wife, a sister or brother. This is a day to cherish their memory and to celebrate the deeds of all veterans who have served our nation.

Let us give thanks every day of our lives for them, for they have rightfully earned our gratitude, our respect and a place of honor among us. And we must strive to instill and keep their honor.

As Americans, we have been blessed to have so many people who were genuinely committed to something larger than themselves — people who understood duty for the greater good. And we must never forget that the freedoms we enjoy today are due to these men and women. The sum total of who we are as a nation and as a people is mirrored in their sacrifices.

There is no better way to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice than to remember them, and their courage, and draw upon it to strengthen our spirit as a nation.

May God bless all who have served, and may God bless America.

This event is open to not only military, but civilians as well are encouraged to participate to honor our past veterans. An hour or two of your time is all that is asked. If you choose to participate, be assured, you will leave with a warm feeling in your heart, a new sense of pride in your country, and more than likely a tear in your eye. Additionally, please remember and consider volunteering for the removal of the flags. Not sure of the time, but the National Cemetery staff also needs help on Tuesday after Memorial Day to collect all of the flags for next year.

The Iraq War began exactly 11 years ago today and lasted until December 15, 2011. Today we remember the lives lost and honor all the men and women, past and present, who put their lives on the line for our freedom.
