Helping homeless Veterans and promoting healthy lifestyles are what the annual VA2K Walk & Roll event is all about.

The 8th Annual VA2K Walk & Roll will be held May 16 at the Biloxi VA Medical Center’s water fountain at the following times: 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 2 p.m. The Biloxi VAMC is located at 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, Miss.

The VA2K event includes a short two kilometer walk (approximately 1.2 miles) The event is free, and the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System invites and encourages community participation.

Participants are encouraged to bring a voluntary donation such as flashlights, batteries, tarps, tents, toiletries, non-perishable, packaged food or bottled water. These donations will be collected and distributed to local homeless Veterans. Donations are not required in order to participate.

Nationally, since 2011, donations valued at approximately $2 million have been raised for homeless Veterans.

“The VA2K Walk & Roll is one of the ways we encourage our staff to adopt healthy lifestyles. It’s also a great way for them to help homeless Veterans,” Bryan C. Matthews, Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System director, said.

Two pool tables at our Recreation Hall (Bldg. 17) were recently reburbished courtesy of Americorps Frontline Families and the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces. Veterans can now enjoy playing pool on these two beauties. Special thanks to Wendy Samples for coordinating this effort.
