The hard truth: In Mississippi, your ZIP code and your background shouldn’t determine your chance of surviving cancer—but right now, they do.

Statistics show that minority populations in our state, particularly Black Mississippians, face significantly higher cancer mortality rates. From the Delta to the Coast, systemic barriers like limited healthcare access and financial strain mean that too many of our neighbors are diagnosed too late.

But we can change the tide. 🌊

When you support Shuck Cancer Gulf Coast, your impact is immediate and local. Every dollar raised stays right here in Mississippi to help our patients overcome the barriers standing between them and the care they deserve. Whether it’s providing transportation to treatments or navigating complex medical hurdles, your donation ensures no one has to fight this battle alone.

Let’s take care of our own. Support local. Support Mississippi patients.

Big Win for the Gulf Coast! 🌊🚭
We are thrilled to share that Pascagoula has officially strengthened its smoke-free ordinance! This updated law makes the city a safer, healthier place for families and workers by ensuring everyone can breathe clean air.

As ACS CAN Mississippi Director Kimberly Hughes said, "No one should have to choose between their health and a good paycheck."

This is a huge step forward in our mission to and protect our community from secondhand smoke. Let’s keep this momentum going across the entire Gulf Coast! 🦀💪

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – The city of Pascagoula, Mississippi updated its smoke-free ordinance Tuesday night. The following is a statement from American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Mississippi Government Relations Director Kimberly Hughes:

The prep has officially begun! 🦪 As of April 1st, the Shuck Cancer Gulf Coast 2026 campaign is underway.

Why start now? Because April is National Cancer Control Month. It’s the time we focus on prevention, early detection, and shucking the stigma surrounding diagnoses like Testicular, Esophageal, and Oral cancers.

Our goal this year is $262,500—a big number for a big cause. Every dollar we raise starting today helps provide free lodging at Hope Lodge and transportation through Road To Recovery for our neighbors in South Mississippi.

Are you ready to join the fight? Become a Shucker, a sponsor, or a donor today.

Cancer death rates in Mississippi remain higher than the national average. According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, the state sees about 180 cancer deaths each year for every 100,000 residents, compared to about 146 nationally.

Sudheer Koutha, an epidemiologist with the Mississippi State Department of Health, said overall cancer rates have declined since the 1980s, but trends among younger adults are rising. Click to read more:

“In the past 10 to 14 years, the cancer trend among individuals younger than 50 is increasing,” Koutha said.
