Spend the summer with us! The VLI is looking for Stetson Law students to help maintain cases during the summer months. No experience in veterans law is necessary!

Overview:
This program will provide fellows the opportunity to work directly with clients who are seeking disability benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs under the supervision of Professor Zimarakos. Fellows will draft legal documents and memoranda, conduct legal research, conduct client meetings or interviews, develop case strategies, work with other professionals, and engage in case investigation. Fellows will improve the lives of veterans by providing them with free legal assistance; such assistance can lead to increased income, improved health, housing, and overall socioeconomic stability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Comply with all policies and procedures of the Veterans Law Institute and Veterans Advocacy Clinic under the discretion of the VLI Associate Director;
• Complete 250 hours across the 10-week program;
• Attend and participate in VLI Bootcamp at the start of the program;
• Assist the Institute in maintaining and advancing client casework throughout the summer months;
o Maintain client communication;
o Maintain client files;
o Attend weekly meetings with the supervising attorney;
o Advance client goals by developing evidence, preparing new claims and appeals, and conducting legal and medical research as needed.
Qualifications:
• Stetson Law student in good standing throughout the 10-week program
• An interest in working with veteran clients
Additional Information:
• During the summer, it is anticipated that students will work 25 hours per week between Monday and Thursday between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm. Across the 10-week program, this totals 250 hours.
