Meet Hades!

Hades is an approximately 1-year-old Great Dane who is currently being fostered in Jacksonville, Florida. His story started when he was found running along a busy highway, underweight and dangerously hot. He completed the mandatory stray hold for the Jacksonville Animal Shelter, but sadly, no one ever came looking for him. Hades was never reclaimed, and that is when his journey with Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue began.

Despite everything he has been through, Hades is an absolute joy to be around. He is incredibly sweet, gentle, intelligent and eager to learn. He gets along with every adult he has met and has done very well with his foster mom's Labrador, showing no signs of dog reactivity so far.

Hades is still very much a puppy, so he has plenty of energy and some typical puppy behaviors like jumping and mouthing. The good news is that he is easily redirected and eager to learn. He loves playing fetch in the afternoons and has plenty of energy when he wants to play, but he also has days where he is perfectly content to curl up next to you for a nap. We have a feeling that once he grows out of the puppy stage, this energetic boy is going to reveal his inner couch potato.

He is potty trained, has excellent recall and is surprisingly good on a leash. He does not pull and walks beautifully. He has been free-roaming in the house while his foster is home and has done very well when left alone in a smaller area.

Hades is very people-oriented and wants to be near his humans. He has some separation anxiety and will bark if he knows you are home but can't get to you, so his family will need to continue working with him on being comfortable when separated from them.

Hades is NOT good with children, so he needs an adult-only home. He also has a tendency to chase cats and squirrels, so a home without cats or other small animals would be best.

A fenced-in yard is required for Hades. He loves having room to run and play, and a secure yard will be especially important as he continues to grow and mature.

Hades is getting neutered this week and will be ready for adoption shortly after he recovers from surgery. He is already fully vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. He has no known medical issues at this time.

Hades had a rough start to life, but you would never know it from meeting him. He is sweet, affectionate, playful, smart and eager to please. He deserves a family who will give him the structure, patience and love he needs to grow into the incredible adult Dane we know he can be.

Meet Stella!

**FOSTERED IN MOLINO, FL.**

Stella is a 1.5-year-old Great Dane with a playful spirit, endless energy, and enough personality to keep you smiling every day. This goofy girl loves running around the yard, wrestling with her foster siblings, and joining her people on long walks and adventures.

When meeting new people, Stella can be a little shy at first, especially around men. She isn't aggressive in the slightestjust cautious. Her favorite introduction method is simple: ignore her! Once she has completed her important sniffing duties and satisfied her curiosity, she warms up quickly and becomes a loving, affectionate companion. Stella prefers to approach new people on her own terms and isn't a fan of being grabbed at before she's comfortable.

Stella has done wonderfully with people of all ages, from babies to seniors. She currently lives with an adult cat and has shown no aggression, though she is very curious about kittens and other small animals.

Like many young Danes, Stella loves to playbut she plays hard! She has no idea how big she is and enjoys throwing around her giant paws, so a home without small dogs would likely be the best fit.

This girl also takes her neighborhood watch duties very seriously. If she hears the slightest suspicious sound, she'll bark an enthusiastic alert before promptly retreating and letting someone else investigate the situation.

Stella is potty trained and has had no accidents in her foster home with regular potty breaks. She is crate trained and is kenneled when unsupervised, as she occasionally enjoys plundering and pillaging any treasures she can find around the house.

Potential adopters should know that Stella can be a bit of an escape artist. She can clear a 4-foot baby gate and may jump a fence if she decides she's finished being contained. While she is now very reliable off leash with her foster family, she was initially a flight risk and required leash walks until trust and bonding were established. It took her just a few days to settle into her foster home, and once she felt safe, she made herself right at home.

Stella is truly a gema sweet, silly, loyal young Dane who is looking for a patient family willing to give her a little time to build confidence. In return, she'll reward you with endless love, laughter, and companionship. Whoever adopts Stella is sure to fall in love with her immediately.

Emma's Story....

Emma's beautiful eyes show the fear and abandonment she's lived with, but also show the love and hope in her heart. She's a gorgeous 4-5 year old fawn girl, who was picked up as a stray in Florence Al. Her owners never came forward but some wonderful volunteers at the shelter reached out to NWFGDR and now Emma is safe and ready for her happily ever after.

Emma is so quiet, her foster mom has only heard her bark once. She's gentle and loving and just wants to lean on her human all day. Emma enjoys playing with her foster sister, but is happy just going on walks and running a few zoomies. She would be fine as an only dog or with canine siblings. We are not sure about cats or other animals, but she's good with kids of all ages. She has free run of the house and hasn't had an accident or destroyed anything.

Emma is spayed, healthy and heartworm negative. She's tall and about 120 pounds. Emma's fawn with a lovely black mask and velvety soft black ears. Emma walks well on a leash and knows a few basic commands. She's smart and treat motivated, learning her name in just a few short hours. This sweet girl is frightened of brooms, mops, rakes and anything else that could be used as a weapon, so would probably do best in a quieter home. She loves to be petted but cringes a little if she's approached too quickly. Emma is hesitant at first, especially with men, but warms up quickly and is learningto trust.

Emma spent some time on the streets, foraging for food and carries that instinct still. She's a master level counter surfer and is particularly fond of any type of bread or pastry. She's quite tall and can reach most counter tops, so a secure bread box is helpful. She also likes to visit the neighbors, who might have some bread. She jumped over a 4 foot gate to check out the neighborhood but she did come back immediately when we called her.

Emma's a sweet, loving, gentle girl ready for her forever home.

Meet Murray: Collector of Plushies, Connoisseur of Snacks, Survivor Extraordinaire

Some dogs get a fresh start. Murray earned his.

Before coming into rescue, Murray endured unimaginable neglect. Locked away in a crate without proper care, love, or even basic necessities, his survival is nothing short of remarkable. The past may have called him Scrappy, but that chapter is closed. This handsome 4-5 year old boy has a new name, a new life, and a future filled with everything he was denied.

So, everyone say hello to Murray.

Murray is what happens when a giant heart, a playful spirit, and an obsession with plush toys all get packed into one VERY handsome dog.

He loves people.
He loves love.
He loves lounging in the sun.
He loves zoomies.
He loves food.

But above all else...
Murray loves plush toys.

Not "likes" them. Not "enjoys" them.

LOVES them.

Imagine Dobby receiving a sock, then multiply that joy by about a thousand suns and a thousand moons. Foster Mom reports that when a BarkBox arrives, Murray practically vibrates with excitement. When visitors come over, he frantically searches for one of his treasures so he can proudly show off his prize. Every toy is precious. Every toy is gold.

Because his toys are so important to him, Murray prefers not to share them with other dogs. He gives very clear warnings if another canine expresses interest in his treasures, so any dog siblings will need respectful manners and an understanding of boundaries.

Speaking of other dogs, Murray generally gets along very well with them. He is being fostered with a 13 year old Dane sister who he defers to and a crazy 3 year old Dane sister that he has a grand time with. Murray's play style can best be described as enthusiastic professional wrestling commentator meets monster truck rally. He plays hard. He plays loud. Sometimes he sounds downright terrifying while having the time of his life. For that reason, any canine companions should have solid temperaments, and introductions should be done slowly and thoughtfully.

As for cats aka fur ninjas?

Murray currently lives with three.

Unfortunately, nobody has successfully explained "The Way of the Cat" to him. The cats make him nervous, especially when they attempt affectionate headbutts. Murray seems convinced they're up to NO good. Foster Mom believes he'd do best in a home without cats, or with one of those rare dog-savvy feline pet rocks who minds their own business.

Humans, on the other hand, are his favorite. Murray adores people of all sizes. He is blissfully unaware of exactly how large he is though. During playtime, small humans may find themselves participating in an unintended game of canine/toddler bowling, so older children are recommended.

At home, Murray is an absolute gentleman. Foster Mom allows him free-roam while she's at work, and he handles the responsibility beautifully. He has learned to use a dog door but previously gave clear signals when he needed to head outside.

Outside is actually one of Murray's favorite places. He loves stretching out in the grass, soaking up the sunshine, and supervising the neighborhood from his personal observation post. However, if he sees his people leaving and believes he can follow, he'll certainly consider the possibility. Because of this, Murray will need a secure, sturdy fence. Once he understands there's no easy escape route, he settles quickly.

Murray also enjoys adventures and walks. He does very well wearing a Gentle Leader head harness. Without one? Well... let's just say the Force is strong with this one, and you should be prepared for the possibility of temporary flight.

Training is going wonderfully. Murray is learning to sit and patiently wait for treats. Sure, he may drool enough to fill a small bucket while doing it, but he's making fantastic progress. His love of food makes him highly motivated to learn, and despite his difficult past, Foster Mom has never observed food aggression toward either humans or other dogs.

Today, Murray has reached a healthy maintenance weight and is feeling better than ever. His body is healing, his spirit is shining, and he's ready to find the family that will love him for the rest of his days.

Fostered in Pace FL

Shaggy is a 7 to 8 year old Great Dane with a laid back personality and a heart of gold. He came into rescue alongside Hershey after years of neglect, and he has settled into home life like he has been doing it forever.

Shaggy is one of those dogs who just makes everything easier. He is great with people, great with kids, and great with other dogs of all sizes. He lives with multiple dogs right now, including a confident alpha male, a playful young Dane, a small Dachshund, and another rescue, and gets along with everyone. He truly is a social butterfly and has never met a stranger.

His personality is equal parts chill and affectionate. Around the house, he is happiest lounging on the couch or hanging out near his people. The vet even asked if he was on a relaxer, but that is just who he is. At the same time, he still has his fun moments and will get the morning zoomies, sometimes even wearing out the younger dogs. He also has a very sweet, affectionate side and loves to give hugs by resting his head on your shoulder and leaning into you.

Shaggy is well mannered and easy to live with. He has free roam of the house and has never been destructive. He does not get into things, chew what he should not, or counter surf. He is house trained and does best with access to a doggie door since he drinks a lot of water and urinates frequently. He has had no issues with accidents when given that access.

He listens well and already knows basic commands like come, stay, and no. He walks great on a leash, has excellent recall, and will even stop mid chase if corrected, including when going after outdoor cats. He stays in the yard when supervised and is overall a very trustworthy, easygoing companion.

Shaggy does have a few age related quirks. He has some joint stiffness, a hygroma, and drinks and urinates more than average. He may occasionally leak urine while sleeping, so a washable cover or mattress protector is helpful. He has been fully evaluated for urinary tract infections, urinary crystals, and Addison’s disease, and all tests have come back negative. At this point, his urinary issues are believed to be age related and muscle related. None of this slows him down much, and he continues to enjoy a relaxed, happy routine.

He is not food aggressive but, like most dogs, prefers to eat without other dogs in his space. The only times he has ever growled were if another dog approached him while eating or startled him while sleeping, which is very manageable with basic awareness.

Shaggy would do best in a home where he has companionship, either from another dog or from people who are home often. While he does not have severe separation anxiety, he clearly enjoys having company. He would thrive in a home that appreciates a calm, affectionate, easygoing dog who still has just enough playful energy to keep things fun.

Shaggy weighs about 115 pounds, is heartworm negative, and is up to date on care.

If you are looking for a steady, loving companion who is equal parts couch potato and gentle best friend, Shaggy just might be your guy.

Shaggy is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and micro chipped. His adoption fee is $300.
