Announcing Community Meditation at the BBCC starting this week!

The Guilford Recreation Commission is pleased to be able to offer a weekly meditation group at the Broad Brook Community Center, at 7 AM on Wednesday mornings. This group will pilot for the next 3 months, and if there is enough community interest, will continue longer.

About the facilitator, Mitchell H: With over 2.5 decades of experience, Mitchell has practiced and taught yoga asana, meditation and breathing techniques (including pranayama, breath kriya) to youth, elders, and everyone in between. He founded and ran Grassroots Yoga studio for over a decade and has applied yoga as a physiotherapy tool for those recovering from surgery, injury, and chronic pain.

Cost: by donation, suggested $10, no one is turned away.

Join the Guilford Energy Committee for an inspiring presentation by Guilford resident and micro-hydropower pioneer Roman Nemet!

Roman is working to harness the energy of Vermont's streams and brooks through innovative, small-scale hydro systems. Drawing on his local projects and years of experience, Roman will explain how micro hydro works, where it can be used, and its potential to provide reliable, renewable energy without the need for large dams.

The presentation will take place from 7:00–9:00 PM in the upstairs hall at the Broad Brook Community Center. If you'd like to make an evening of it, the First Monday Community Potluck will be happening downstairs from 6:00–8:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to enjoy dinner with neighbors before heading upstairs for the talk. Hosted by the Guilford Energy Committee.

During the first four days of October, the BBCC will host Guilford Center Stage’s premiere of a new full-length play, Vermont Mythos.

Months back, the GCS board asked Guilford playwright Michael Nethercott to create a play which in some way recognized our town’s history in honor of the US 250th. To quote the writer, “I came up with a concept that draws from the town’s backstory, but also goes in a more fantastical direction, exploring what it means to be human.”

To tell its tale, the play, featuring 16 actors, uses various historical figures (such as Ethan Allen, Royall Tyler, and Lucy Terry Prince) but also a Greek chorus and a pestering jester. Vermont Mythos will be Nethercott’s fifth play that has been presented at the BBCC.

The shows run Thursday October 1st through Sunday October 4th . The first three performances are at 7:30 pm and Sunday is a 2:00 p.m. matinee. General admission is $16 per person. To learn more about the show, contact Michael at [email protected]

Join us for Community Yoga, most Mondays at 5 pm at the BBCC!

Cost: by donation, suggested $10 (and $5 for seniors and those receiving EBT benefits).

Participants: adults and children 10 and older are welcome, children need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the class. A waiver to participate is needed (available at the door).

Location: Broad Brook Community Center, 3940 Guilford Center Rd, Guilford, VT

Kripalu All-Level Community Yoga Class: This class is accessible to people of all abilities and experience. Kripalu-style yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga that is a nonsectarian and nondogmatic vinyasa (flow) style class. Each class includes a centering pranayama (breathing exercise), warm-ups, asana (posture) sequences, and a final guided shavasana (relaxation). Modification prompts will be provided for those who would like to challenge themselves or those who would like accessibility options for their body. Discover the mind-body connection, encourage stress reduction, and improve self-regulation and physical health. Guided by Lindsay Parise, a yoga practitioner of over two decades, who is excited to offer this community-based class.

Participants should bring their own mat and any props they might need, though a few will be available to borrow. Chairs will be available if this modification is needed.

What a fun dance last night at the Broad Brook Community Center

Have you come to the monthly Brattleboro Area contra dance yet? It's the second Sunday of each month at the BBCC! We hope you'll join us for next months dance on Sunday, October 11, as we welcome Alex Cu***ng and Audrey Jaber to our stage with Will Mentor calling.

The dance starts at 6:30 and runs until 9 PM. Admission is sliding scale $15-$20. Children welcome at a reduced price. All dances are taught and no partner or experience required.

Fall is coming! Clean out your closets before the season changes and join us for the Swapanista Fall Clothing Swap: a special event hosted by Lesley Malouin for all you fashionistas hunting for a new fall look!

On Saturday September 12th from 9am - 11am, bring your clothing, shoes, coats, winter gear, scarves, jewelry… and swap them out for items from friends and neighbors. From kids to adults - you'll find something!

Please note, all items must be clean and in good working condition, and no household items. Leftovers will be donated.

This is a free community event utilizing one of our rent free Community Days. All are welcome!

Love puzzles? So do we! Mark your calendars for our second annual cozy and casual Puzzle Swap at the Broad Brook Community Center on October 24th from 10am - noon.

Bring a few puzzles you’ve already solved, and trade them for new-to-you challenges brought in by fellow puzzle lovers. It’s the perfect way to refresh your puzzle stash, meet other enthusiasts, and maybe even find that missing piece of community 😉

Drop off gently used puzzles on or before October 24th anytime the Broad Brook Community Center is open for events. Look for the PUZZLE DONATIONS basket in the foyer.

This event is free and open to all. All ages welcome, and no need to bring puzzles to participate (but it helps!).
