Sending our heartfelt condolences to the North Haven Fire Department on the loss of Firefighter John Bysko. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and his brothers and sisters in the fire service during this difficult time.

It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of Firefighter John Bysko earlier this morning. John faithfully served the department for 14 years and was most recently assigned to Fire Headquarters. His unique sense of humor and passion for the job will be deeply missed by all who worked alongside him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bysko family and stand ready to provide any support they may need in the weeks ahead. Information regarding services will be shared as it becomes available.

Wake and Funeral Arrangements for Firefighter Michael Terrio

The wake for Firefighter Michael Terrio will be held on Thursday, August 28th at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT.

• Visiting hours will be from 1600 to 2000 hours.
• All fire department personnel are requested to assemble outside Swan Funeral Home at 1745 hours in Class A uniforms.
• Members will form up across the street from the funeral home with Guilford Squad 1 and Madison Hose Engine 2-5-1.
• At 1800 hours, personnel will proceed into the funeral home, led by the Chief Officers of the Guilford Fire Department and the Madison Fire Department.

At this time, no outside fire apparatus will be involved in the wake or funeral services.

The funeral service for Firefighter Terrio will take place on Friday, August 29th at 1000 hours at St. Margaret Church, 24 Academy Street, Madison, CT.

• Parking and shuttle buses will be available at the Madison Train Station, 77 Bradley Road.
• Shuttle buses will depart promptly at 0915 hours and proceed to St. Margaret Church.
• Following the Mass, a funeral procession will travel from St. Margaret Church to West End Cemetery, Boston Post Road at Jannas Lane, Madison, CT.

A reception will be held at Martin Bishop Field, 111 Long Hill Road, Guilford, CT beginning at approximately 1300 hours.

On behalf of Guilford Firefighters Local 4177, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our community, neighboring departments, and brother and sister firefighters across the state for the overwhelming support, kind words, and solidarity shown during this time of unimaginable loss.

Our brother, Firefighter Mike Terrio, will be deeply missed. His dedication, service, and camaraderie touched all of us, and his passing leaves a void that cannot be filled.

We send our sincere condolences to Mike’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Please keep them in your thoughts as we honor his life, his service, and his legacy.

Rest easy, Brother. We’ll take it from here. 🚒❤️

It is with great sadness that the Town of Guilford and the Guilford Fire Department announce the passing of Firefighter Michael Terrio, an active member of our department.

On the evening of Friday August 22nd, Firefighter Terrio was involved in a multi-vehicle accident. Despite the valiant efforts of medical personnel, he tragically passed away at the hospital.

Firefighter Terrio was a dedicated public servant who committed himself to protecting the residents of Guilford. His loss is deeply felt by his fellow firefighters, colleagues across town departments, and the entire Guilford community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael’s family during this unimaginable time,” said Michael Shove, Guilford Fire Chief. “We ask the community to keep his loved ones in their hearts as we grieve the loss of a brother firefighter.”

The Guilford Fire Department will have peer support services available to assist members and staff in coping with this difficult loss.

Details regarding memorial arrangements will be shared once they are finalized in coordination with Michael’s family.

The Town of Guilford and Guilford Fire Department thank the community for its compassion and support as we honor the memory of Firefighter Michael Terrio.
