Earlier this week, NYSCAA attended the 2026 CAPLAW Conference in Phoenix, AZ! 🌵

Attendees heard from experts from across the country, including a CSBG and Head Start update from National Partners, remarks from NCAF's David Bradley, and a screening of a powerful documentary film.

The conference was a great opportunity to engage, connect, and bring home valuable insights for the people we serve everyday.

WE ARE WEATHERIZATION.

From crawlspaces to attics, basements to rooftops, our dedicated WAP crews are on the ground across New York State every day making homes safer, healthier, and more energy efficient for vulnerable New Yorkers. This work lowers utility bills, creates local jobs, and helps members of our communities stay in their homes.

We thank the New York State Legislature for championing $40 million in Weatherization Assistance Program capital funding and Governor Kathy Hochul for supporting this investment in the final budget! This investment will preserve the WAP workforce and help local agencies continue delivering critical services to families, seniors, veterans, and households in need across New York.

Thank you for supporting the people behind this work and the communities we serve.

We're honored to announce our last Shine the Light winner is Sally Servello, Telephone Operator/Receptionist, or as she's known around Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency, Inc., the "Director of First Impressions."

Sally's story with Community Action spans 22 years and is one of the most powerful testaments to what this network is all about. What began as a moment of need; enrolling her daughter in Head Start, became a life-changing opportunity that led her through personal hardship, a cancer diagnosis, sobriety, and ultimately, the adoption of a little boy who now has a family because of the love and support surrounding her.

"I don't just work at Community Action — I believe in it! I am dedicated to helping others find the same support, encouragement and opportunity that helped me rebuild and move forward."

Thank you Sally, and thank you to all of our Shine the Light winners this Community Action Month. You are the heart of Community Action.

Today we pause to remember and honor those who gave everything in service to our country.
