As part of Craft in America’s Handworks 2026 nationwide initiative, Pond Farm Pottery recently offered two special tour/demonstration/talks to sold-out crowds. Former Pond Farm student and Maryland ceramicist Hunt Prothro talked about life during Marguerite Wildenhain’s famous summer workshops, and shared the many ways she influenced his work.
Monthly tours are available every third Saturday until October, and by appointment through Pondfarmpottery.org. If you like the idea of more special events like this, reply in the comment section!

Our first Artist in Residence of the summer, Victoria Wagner, is hosting a wood sculpturing demonstration on Sunday, June 7th from 3pm to 4pm. Victoria will lead a demonstration on getting to know your chainsaw and share safety basics to keep in mind when using your own chainsaw. She will also demonstrate how she approaches a large-scale sculpture on reclaimed wood from the park. Please bring your sketchbook in the event that your imagination is sparked during your time together.

Attendees will be meeting at the Stewards Volunteer Building at 2:45pm.

Extended tour of Pond Farm Pottery, Sunday, May 17th 9:30AM to 12:30AM. Included is a throwing demonstration + talk from guest potter and Pond Farmer Hunt Prothro, discussing Wildenhain’s surface and glaze effects and other influences on his own body of work. Refreshments provided. Part of Handwork 2026.
This tour will immerse you in the history and natural beauty of this significant cultural site, a National Historic Landmark. Learn about the dreams and challenges of internationally-renowned ceramicist Marguerite Wildenhain, the first woman to graduate from the Bauhaus as a Master Potter. For more than 30 years, Pond Farm Pottery was Marguerite’s home, school, and studio where she taught hundreds of students in the Bauhaus tradition.
Tours begin promptly at 9:30AM. The tour begins at the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods office/Volunteer Office which is located to the right beyond the picnic area in Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. After a brief presentation, participants will carpool up the hill to the site, which is located in Austin Creek State Recreation Area, less than a mile away.
Cost is $35 per person. Reservations are required. Tickets are non-refundable, but transferable. Private group tours by appointment only.

Spend a day where art, nature, and history come together! At Pond Farm Pottery, you’re not only visiting—you're immersing yourself in a living legacy. This is the home and studio of Marguerite Wildenhain, a place where generations of artists have honed their skills. Now it's your turn.

We invite you to help restore Pond Farm! Join us in the hills above Guerneville to learn a new skill, deepen an existing one, or share your expertise. You can participate in hands-on restoration, practice your craftsmanship, or simply gain a fresh perspective on the landscape. Experience is not required—just curiosity and a willingness to learn.

You’ll walk away with:

-Practical, hands-on skills you can actually use
-A deeper connection to the land and its history
-The satisfaction of helping preserve a National Historic Landmark
-And maybe a little more confidence in what you can create

We are delighted to share the line up of 2026 Artists-In-Residence coming this summer to Pond Farm Pottery.
This season we look forward to the following artists inhabiting the space, sharing their work and allowing the spirit of Marguerite and Armstrong Woods to imbue their process.
