Recently, our members responded to a reported structure fire involving an abandoned trailer that was fully involved when units were dispatched.

Engines 151, 152 and 155 responded to the scene and worked to bring the fire under control.

We would like to thank Haysi Volunteer Fire Department for providing a tanker and assisting with our water supply during the incident.

We appreciate the continued teamwork and support of our mutual-aid partners.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Gatorade for generously donating a pallet of drinks for our personnel!

Staying hydrated is extremely important for firefighters and emergency personnel, especially while working extended incidents in hot and demanding conditions. This donation will help ensure our members have refreshments available while training, responding to emergencies and working on scenes.

Over the past month, our members have responded to numerous incidents throughout our community and surrounding areas, including several motor vehicle crashes, trail rescues, snakebite calls, a rope rescue and other critical incidents.

We would like to thank the Breaks Interstate Park Rangers for their assistance during trail rescues and snakebite calls. We also appreciate Big Rock Fire Department for assisting with a rope rescue, Oakwood Fire and Rescue for assisting with a motor vehicle accident and Grundy Volunteer Fire Department for providing mutual aid during a critical motor vehicle accident and helping establish a landing zone.

We would also like to thank the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office - Virginia and Virginia State Police for their assistance during a recent critical incident.

A special thank you also goes to our EMS personnel for always being ready to answer the call. Multiple times this past month, we have had several ambulances responding to calls at the same time. On a few occasions, we had three ambulances on the road and at one point, we had four ambulances out serving those in need.
Incidents such as these require cooperation, dedication and teamwork. We are grateful for the quick response and professionalism of our members, dispatchers and mutual aid partners who continue working together to serve and protect our communities.

A lot of the work that keeps a fire department ready happens behind the scenes.

Recently, annual pump testing was completed on our apparatuses to ensure the pumps are operating properly and ready when they are needed. They all passed! Our personnel also received hands on training from Pierce Manufacturing on our new Engine 151, which was delivered during the first week of July.

Regular testing and continued training help our members become familiar with our equipment and ensure we are prepared to serve our community safely and effectively.

We appreciate everyone who helped make both of these opportunities possible!

🚧 Traffic Alert 🚧

The road from the Narrow Section to the top of Little Prater is currently blocked due to a tractor-trailer that is stuck.

The road is expected to be blocked for approximately 1 hour while crews work to clear it.

We'll post an update as soon as the road is open. Please use an alternate route if possible and avoid the area until then.

We want to thank everyone who came out and helped make this year’s event such a success!

It was great seeing so many families, friends and neighbors come together for the evening. The crowd keeps growing every year and that support means a lot to us.
