Grundy Center Lions Club

Grundy Center Lions Club Cash Donations over the years have included gifts:
* to Maroon and White, Inc.

Grundy Center (Iowa) Lions Club members provide service to the local community with "hands on" projects, cash donations, as well as donations to Lions Clubs International affiliated projects. Projects include:
- KidSight Vision Screening for preschools and day cares in Grundy Center and surrounding communities;
- LifeServe Blood Drives are sponsored 6 times each year and hosted at the Grundy Cente

r Community Center;
- A Medical Loaning Library that provides medical supplies (such as walkers, wheel chairs, shower chairs, knee scooters, canes, etc.) to area residents at no cost;
- a team for the annual Grundy County Relay for Life to raise funds for the American Cancer Society;
- Collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids that are re-purposed by Iowa Lions; and
- Supporting other area clubs with the "traveling lion" to walk in parades (a Grundy Center member in a Lion suit walks with members of other clubs). to support the remodeling of the former upper elementary building;
* to Megan's Playground for Grundy Center Preschool;
* to Grundy Center Parks to provide four new tables (made of recycled plastic) for local parks;
* to Grundy County Supervisors to provide two new tables (made of recycled plastic) for the county Courthouse Square;
* to pay the monthly rent at the Grundy Center Community Center so that the Mobile Pantry can be hosted there (in cooperation with local coordinators and the Northeast Iowa Food Bank);
* to Leader Dogs for the Blind;
* to Center Theater (a community theater in Grundy Center);
* to Grundy Center Sorority Sisters to support the annual Easter Egg Hunt;
* to pay an audiologists' fee so that less fortunate can receive hearing aids from Iowa Lions;
* to the Lions Clubs International Foundation and the Iowa Lions Foundation;

Grundy Center Lions have One (1) ongoing fundraiser - sorting bottles and cans (pop, beer and liquor) for redemption with "Cans for Cash" (a business in Iowa Falls). Note: Annual Dues paid by members cover the payment of annual dues to the Iowa Lions and Lions Clubs International.

"Iowa's main blood center, LifeServe, is becoming increasingly concerned about the lack of donors stepping up — without enough donations, hospitals edge closer to the point where they'll run out of supplies to perform blood transfusions.

The number of blood donors under the age of 30 has dropped 50% nationwide since 2015, said LifeServe Marketing Director Tim Paluch. Just 23% of donors in 2025 were under 40.

In Iowa, it would be "a real struggle" for LifeServe to provide enough blood if a major trauma event were to happen."

Grundy Center Lions are happy to be a vehicle to recycle eyeglasses so that people without resources for eyeglasses in the US and in other countries can benefit from them. If you would like to donate a pair you no longer use, there are donation boxes in most Grundy Center churches, and also at Wolfe Eye Clinic and Abels Funeral Home. In addition it is OK to put some in a bag or box through the cans/bottles donation door in the Lions building at 501 F Ave. Thanks!

Our club is happy to provide this service in our community, and in several nearby communities.

🚗 On the Road with Iowa KidSight 🚗

Chelle had the pleasure of visiting the Reinbeck Lions Club earlier this month, and not even thunderstorms or hail could keep her from meeting with these dedicated Lions. The Grundy Center Lions Club joined that evening as well, making it a wonderful gathering of partners who care deeply about children’s vision health.

Both clubs play an important role in Iowa KidSight’s mission. Grundy Center Lions have been providing free vision screenings for children ages 6 months through kindergarten since 2004, and Reinbeck Lions proudly joined the effort in 2022. Together, these two clubs have screened an incredible 3,342 children.

What a meaningful difference they are making for kids in their communities. We are truly grateful for their commitment, their heart, their service, and their unwavering support for early childhood vision screening.
