Here are the weigh-in sheets for both days at Umbagog as well as the current Angler of the Year Standings.
Anglers accrue points based on participation at club events, catching a lunker fish, how they finish at each event, supporting the NH Junior Bassmasters events, and participation in meetings. Each angler will drop their lowest score during the tournament season arriving at a final score for the season.
Brian Emerson currently leads in points with 710 points, but, after the current drop, (80 point drop) he has 630 net points. Cam Sterritt with 640 points has a 0 point drop, so he currently is the AOY leader with 640 net points with just one event to go. Chris Gansz is in third place with 510 points and Travis Rocket is in fourth with 490 points after a drop. The last event will tell the story.
Congrats to Dave Boyko for his decisive wins in both the Fantasy Fishing and Drain the Lake contests. Dave wins $50 for each contest.

The Bronzebacks held their Annual 2-Day club tournament this past weekend on beautiful Lake Umbagog in Errol.
Day 1:
Eleven members participated today with eight boaters and three non-boaters. The weather was overcast but stable but the guys had to work for their fish. A total of 48 smallmouth and 4 largemouth were brought to the scales. Cam Sterritt came out on top with 14.78 # which included lunker smallmouth at 3.24 #. Brian Emerson, whose trolling motor crapped out in the afternoon, landed a second place finish with a 13.93 # bag with a 4.16 # largie. Travis Rockett, as a non-boater, took third place with a 13.74 # sack along with the lunker largemouth honors for his 4.46 # green fish.

Day 2:
By all accounts, this was the toughest bite ever at this annual event. The weather was pleasant most of the day except for a brief, but drenching, thundershower early in the afternoon. Ten members turned out for the second day of the tournament. With six boaters and four non-boaters. The Lake was unusually stingy today and most anglers struggled to get a decent limit. No largemouth we’re brought to the scales today, but everyone brought in a full bag of smallies.
Despite his engine not running well at all most of the day, Jim Rockett sealed the number one spot with a 12.49 # sack of brown fish. Brian Emerson, as a non-boater today, again landed in second place with an 11.50 # bag. Cam Sterritt took third place honors and, since no largemouth were checked in, he took second smallie lunker with a 3.61 pounder. Chris Gansz took first place Lunker smallmouth with a 3,66 # brown fish.

Congrats to this year’s North Country Bronzebacks team for their victory at Umbagog!

The North Country Bronzebacks Bass Club hosted this year’s NH Bass Nation’s “Club vs Club” team event on Lake Umbagog this past Sunday. Several clubs were not able to put together a team to trek north for the event, but there were four clubs that did participate (some clubs sent two teams, others sent just one). Each club was allowed to submit their best 8-fish-bag for weigh-in.

The day started out overcast with a somewhat vicious wind blowing which negated any hopes of the often-fantastic Umbagog morning topwater bite. As the morning progressed, the clouds gave way to sunshine and the winds subsided making things more comfortable. It turned out to be a rather tough bite overall, but all teams were able to catch limits and do some culling of smaller fish.

At the end of the day, the Bronzebacks were winners of the Club vs Club event with a 22.40 pound sack of 8 fish, aided by Cam Sterritt’s 4.98 # lunker largemouth and Ed Samson’s 3.01 # lunker smallmouth. NH Bass Casters got second place with a 16.76 # bag, after a dead fish penalty (the only one of the event), which also cost them lunker smallmouth.

The win gives the Bronzebacks the opportunity to select the venue for next year’s Club vs Club event. That location will be decided at their next club meeting. In the interest of the event, it will not likely be Umbagog again (which is sad because it is as good or better venue than most of the larger central and southern NH lakes). Regrettably, too many anglers are not willing to travel that far north to fish. An 8-fish 30-pound bag is imminent at Umbagog. Not many lakes in NH have that potential.

The Bronzebacks gathered this past Sunday to fish Wentworth Lake. 9 anglers ignored the weather forecast and made the trek to Wolfeboro. The forecast was ominous with heavy rain predicted, but nobody expected the absolute monsoon that Mother Nature delivered!
By the time the weigh-in came around, only five anglers remained. The others were driven off the water by the six hours of constant hammering rain.
Brian Emerson found a pattern for largemouth and sacked an impressive 18.40 # five-fish limit for the win, anchored by a 5.67 # Lunker.
Can Sterritt grabbed second place with 12.90 # and a 2.43 # Lunker smallie.
Travis Rockett, Mike Stewart and Dave Boyko also pushed through the rain to take 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

Apologies, just realized I hadn’t finished and posted the results from our club tournament on the CT River (Haverhill).

Only had 7 anglers that suffered through a scorcher of a day on the Connecticut River. With only a two-fish limit per angler and no largemouth caught, the weights were pretty low.
Cam Sterritt came away with the win with two smallies for 5.07 # and Brian Emerson took second place with 4.53 # and Lunker SM at 2.76 #. (Sorry we did not get any photos at this event)

Congratulations to Lisa Lavoie for showing the guys how it’s done at Webster Lake. We battled 20-30mph wind gusts most of the day along with some scorching sun, but that’s better than the deluge we had to endure at Ossipee a couple of weeks ago. Lisa ground it out til the very end and it paid off as she made two big culls in the last 25 minutes which made the difference as she brought a nice pair of largies to the scale which allowed her to take home the money for the Win, as well as for Lunker largemouth (3.84 #). Dave Boyko squeezed by Chris Gansz by 1/100th of a pound to take second place. Chris got some redemption as he did win the Lunker Smallmouth money (2.89 #).

The boat ramp was an adventure, to say the least, as the channel current was ripping by the end of the ramp. Brian Emerson got his boat sucked down under the bridge when he launched. His trolling motor wouldn’t lock down and he could only go at half throttle and the current was too strong for it to hold the boat. Brian grabbed a tree branch and held the boat while Dave Boyko jumped in and started up the engine and drove it out of danger for him.

Loading back up after the weigh-in was no less of a sh*tshow as the first one to load up had his parking brake lock up and he was stuck on the ramp for 20 minutes. Finally got that taken care of and the struggle continued as the current wreaked havoc with getting the rest of the boats lined up and onto the trailers. It was a group effort but we finally got everyone loaded and headed home.

Congrats to Travis Rockett on the Win at our first event of the season at a very rainy Ossipee Lake. Travis brought two 4+ pound smallies to the scales. Cam Sterritt grabbed second place honors. The water was extremely low and the bite was pretty slow. Alex Gross got the Lunker LM money with a 5.15 # green fish and Travis took home the Lunker SM money with a 4.06 brown fish.

Our next event is May 7th at Webster Lake in Franklin.

It was great to see an awesome turnout at Umbagog for our annual 2-day tournament. The weather was perfect (except for a fog delay Sunday morning) and the weekend was lots of fun. The fishing, although a bit tougher than usual due to high water, still turned out some great bags of fish. Congrats to Cam Sterritt on the Day 1 win (4 smallies and 1 largie totaling 14.10 #, including the lunker smallmouth at 3.06 #) and to Brian Emerson on the Day 2 win (4 smallies and 1 largie totaling 14.17 #). Of particular note were the two GIANT largemouth that were turned in. Saturday, Travis Rockett caught a new season-high lunker largemouth at 6.13 #. Chris Wheeler followed suit on Sunday with a 6.01 # largemouth. Randy Stewart grabbed the Lunker Smallmouth honors on Sunday with a 3.58 # bronzeback. Cam Sterritt also came away with the $25 Tackle Warehouse gift card for the best two-day total weight 25.91 # edging out Brian who had 25.61 #.

We enjoyed a nice dinner with great food and lots of laughs on Saturday night at the Backwoods Tavern in Errol. An off-the-cuff side-bet was made over dinner for Sunday between those staying at the Buffalo Farm and those staying at Akers Pond. The top 5 weights on Sunday added together from each group would win the pot ($10/person entry). The Akers Pond team came away with the win 54.60 # - 50.83 #. The boys will have to settle up at Comerford.

The Angler-of-the-Year competition is really heating up with Dave Boyko and Brian Emerson neck and neck going into the last event of the season. Dave is in a bit better position, however, when you consider the single tournament drop.

Our last tournament of the season is coming right up on Comerford Reservoir on Saturday Sept 10th. Launching off Dam Road in Monroe. Takeoff is at 7:00am. $40 entry covers the to
tournament fee and all side pots.

The North Country Bronzebacks and NH Bass Nation teamed up with a "Double-Down Team Open tournament yesterday at Moore Reservoir in Littleton. It was a scorcher of a day on the water. A significant recent draw-down of the water level made it even more challenging than usual to catch the bigger fish, as was evident by the weights that were turned in. However, the team of John Fortier & John Foster were able to catch the unicorn (a 5.26 # monster smallie) among hundreds of 1-1.5 pounders that were caught by the 27-boat field of anglers.

19 teams registered on the Bronzebacks side of the event with the team of Fortier/Foster taking home the money for the win and for the lunker smallmouth. Jeff Perron and Peter Owen grabbed second place honors and the team of Ben Simpson and Bronzeback member Robin Roystan finished third. Since no largemouth were registered, a second lunker smallmouth prize was awarded to the team of Ben Simpson and Robin Roystan with a 2.00 # smallie..

We'd like to thank everyone who came out and participated in this event. The Club vs Club event on Lake Umbagog is scheduled for August 21st. We are still hopeful that clubs will each send a couple of teams to the event. It will be an absolute fish-fest with lots of 2-3 # smallies and a few impressive largies. If your club has not yet put together a team for the event and you would like to participate, please let your club officers know. We hope we don't have to cancel due to not enough teams.
