This! We have had so many calls and people getting upset because we tell them to leave the baby alone

πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”We are begging our community… PLEASE LEAVE FAWNS ALONE.πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”
Every single day we are getting messages and emails from people who have already picked up a fawn and then ask how to care for itπŸ˜‘πŸ˜–πŸ˜‘
This is NOT okay!!! This is NOT legal!!! And this is NOT helping!!!!
If you see a fawn alone for a few hours, that does NOT mean it’s abandoned!!!
Mother deer intentionally leave their babies hidden while they go off to feed. She WILL come back!!!!!!!!!!
When you take that baby you are ILLEGALLY removing wildlife from the wild!!!!
You are causing extreme stress to the fawn!!!!πŸ’”
You are separating it from a mother who is actively caring for itπŸ’”
Now instead of a healthy baby waiting safely for mom YOU'VE created an orphan that did not need to be one!!!!
Please understand this clearly
Do NOT touch, move, or β€œrescue” a fawn without speaking to a licensed wildlife professional FIRST!!!!
If you’re reaching out to US , WAIT for a response before doing anything!!!!
We cannot undo the damage once that baby is takenπŸ’”.
This is getting completely out of control, and it is costing fawns their lives.πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”
We are literally begging you LEAVE THE FAWNS WHERE THEY ARE!!!!!!πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ
Mom is nearby. Let HER do HER job!!!

We completely understand the need to want to help when you find injured or truly orphaned wildlife, but if you truly want to help we have a few helpful hints.

1. Place the animal in a secure box or container that allows for air flow
2. Place an old tshirt (highly recommend by licensed wildlife rehabilitators) since a towel can catch on small body parts. If a towel is all you have though, use it.
3. This is probably one of the most helpful things you can do. Keep the animal warm! Use a heating pad on low, rice sock, or hot water in a bottle. Do not allow the heating elements to directly touch the animal's skin.
4. Please, and we can not stress this enough, do not attempt to feed, give water, or provide medications to injured or orphaned wildlife. It is much easier for a licensed wildlife rehabilitator to help a dehydrated & hungry animal than it is to fix aspiration pneumonia from improper feeding, severe diarrhea, & improper diet or formulas.
5. Use our free app or website, AnimalHelpNow.org, to locate a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or facility near you.

*If you are interested in becoming a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, check with your state to find out what the requirements are. Many states ask that you have a mentor & train alongside licensed rehabilitators before applying for your own license.
