Introducing our newest part-time WAVE driver, Susan Maki! Susan is also the part-time Coordinator at The Little House, and she is quickly becoming a familiar face to many in the community. Whether she's coordinating activities, serving Thursday lunches, or driving WAVE clients to medical appointments, she says there's no place she'd rather be.

Susan and her late husband, Ed, moved to Big Oak Flat seven years ago after falling in love with Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the close-knit community surrounding it. After Ed passed away, Susan began looking for a way to stay active and connected. She worked as a caregiver for a local resident before stopping by The Little House to inquire about another caregiving position. Instead, she learned the coordinator position was available—and the rest is history. Later, she become a WAVE driver as well.

"What impresses me the most is how wonderful this community is and how generous," Susan says. "A word goes out that someone needs something, and people respond."

Susan especially enjoys planning classes and activities that bring people together, but she is equally passionate about WAVE transportation.

"There are people who wouldn't be able to continue living here if they didn't have a way to get to Sonora, Modesto, or other places for medical appointments," she says. "Even if someone doesn't need our services, they probably know someone who does."

For Susan, the greatest reward is simple: helping others. "I love my job," she says. "I love the people I work with, and I'm proud to be part of what we do."
