Lendonwood features six distinct gardens, each with a theme and atmosphere all its own. They include: the Display Garden near the entrance; the Oriental Garden featuring shade plants; the Japanese Pavilion Garden with Koi Pond; the English Terrace Garden highlighting sunny beds and rhododendrons; the American Backyard Garden, where plants thrive without much water; the Angel of Hope Garden, surrounding a statue of an angel, in memory of lost loved ones, especially children; and the Azalea Garden, which in April is abloom with colors ranging from pink to lavender to red to white. In addition, the Gardens include 25 varieties of dogwoods, 75 varieties of Japanese maples, and 125 varieties of hostas. With more than 500 varieties of daylilies, Lendonwood has been designated a display garden for the American Hemerocallis (daylily) Society. In addition, the Gardens are home to about 200 varieties of conifers and 25 varieties of viburnums.

We so appreciate the continuing support of BancFirst in Grove! Once again, this neighborhood bank is helping Lendonwood provide a wonderful experience for little hobgoblins visiting the garden’s BOOtanical Trail event on Oct. 24-25. Thanks to BancFirst, there will be free refreshments in the Japanese Pavilion as the hobgoblins make their way along the pumpkin-lined trail of adventure!

Lots of handcrafted Halloween and fall decor items at our Welcome Center Gift Shop right now! You'll find many treasures made by local artisans Nancy and Jerry Harper, Cindy Reynolds and other talented people. Come see us at Lendonwood! The gift shop is open today until 4 p.m., and tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. Then it's open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 to 4; and Sunday noon to 4.

The second annual Grand Lake Area World Peace Gathering (in connection with the International Day of Peace) was held at Lendonwood on September 20. As welcome rain fell, the program included readings of the names of all the world's countries, faith meditations from around the world, music and poetry. Violinist Jana Jae played the haunting "Ashokan Farewell," the signature musical theme of Ken Burns' "The Civil War" series. Kasi Kennedy played a Native American flute, while Linda Paul performed on the harp. A vocalist trio from the Grove High School Choir sang "Let There Be Peace on Earth."
