Preliminary results - Snyder 130 - Morey 273 (Winner)

Let me take this opportunity to thank every person who worked on this campaign and every person who made a donation.

I would especially like to thank Mike Lane, Irene Stein, Steve DeWitt, Kathy Zahler, Stacy Snyder, Stephanie Brooks and my partner Randie Beards.

We began this campaign with many challenges. Those challenges included a very short election cycle, inclement weather, and an opponent who has been the Town Supervisor of Groton for fifteen years.

The challenges proved to be insurmountable, but what is important is that every voter who came out into the snow did make a difference. This was a close election. Had I chosen not to run my opponent would have run unopposed, and that is not good government.

Looking ahead, I wish Glen the best of luck for this interim two year term. The entire legislature will be up for re-election in 700 days. The voters of Groton, North Lansing, McLean, Dryden and Cortland will have the opportunity to once again decide if they have been well represented for those two years.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have run for the County Legislature. Thank you all.

Neil S. Snyder

Hello, I’m Neil Snyder and I’m running for Tompkins County Legislature for District 9 - to represent the people of Groton - in a special election on February 10, 2015.

If you haven’t noticed recently, Groton is growing faster than other areas of Tompkins County. This presents a number of issues that need to be considered and addressed.

You cannot address growth without change. Simply keeping things the same as they have been for the past 15 years will not tackle an increased need in municipal services: Police, Fire, public works, public health, housing etc. I ask you to consider recent events that have placed Groton under a microscope: A large scale public disturbance at a local convenience store parking lot, the divisive situation in the community with our high school and the transition taking place, issues with replacing the main street bridge, the need for a larger, newer fire station in McLean etc.

My opponent claims his 15 years as a Town Supervisor and his involvement with TCCOG (Tompkins County Council of Governments) gives him experience to do the job. Do you agree?

The residents of Groton have witnessed many years of stagnation. Growth has outpaced the current policies and attitudes of the village and the town. If we don’t address these issues now, Groton politics will always remain reactive instead of proactive.

I have lived in Tompkins County for nearly 10 years. I am a resident of Groton. I also have decades of experience in technology, computers and business. I am a hard working, tax paying, blue collar citizen of Groton, just as my neighbors are. I work at Wegmans in the customer service area and interact with the public on a daily basis. I am a creative thinker, a great communicator and I believe in inclusiveness. As Groton’s representative on the Tompkins County Legislature, I pledge to listen, include and develop ways to address these and any other issues brought to my attention. Not only will I represent you, I will include you.

I ask for your vote on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Polls are open 6AM to 9PM. Please don’t let others decide who will represent you, decide for yourself. Rides are available to the polls also. Please contact me if you need transportation.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Neil Snyder
