The Groton Horse

The Groton Horse Welcome to the Groton Horse! Many of you may recognize the black brown horse moving through town every so often or see us on the trails.

Many of you may recognize the black-brown horse moving through town every so often, follow us as we explore the town trails and participate in local events! That horse is Tango, a happy-go-lucky Arabian horse who loves to explore with his owner. We live in this beautiful town and love nothing more than to explore the incredible town forest trails. Tango and his owner can be commonly found on the t

own forest trails in Groton, Pepperell, and Dunstable as well as the Nashua River Rail Trail and moving through the streets of Groton and Pepperell. Follow us to see our adventures as we have yet to explore new trails and discover new places!

⭐️Get ready Groton! ⭐️It’s that time of year, the Headless Horseman is about to appear! 🎃🐎
Dates, times and locations noted below!

Before the fun begins, we do have an announcement.
🧡🖤 this is possibly going to be Tango’s last year as the Horseman’s ride🖤🧡

You may have noticed we haven’t been out as much this past summer. Tango has overcome a few injuries and health conditions that took time to heal and recover from, but with the help of his vet and farrier we are back to 100%. With that said, Tango is nearly 33 years old, almost 95 in human years, and arthritis has started to set in. He is receiving everything and more a senior horse needs to be comfortable and successful, and has been recently cleared by his vet and farrier to continue riding. While he is still his happy, energetic, enthusiastic self, as his owner I have to make new adjustments and limitations to his day to day life so that his golden years are the best they can possibly be. He is not ready to retire completely and loves his job as a trail horse. Our goal is to keep him happy, active and pain free for the 2026 season. We want to be upfront with his fans so as not to disappoint should we cancel our yearly tradition on short notice next year. We would like to thank everyone who has supported and loved Tango since he started this in 2022!
Keep your eyes open for us:

🎃 October 18th 5:45-6:45 The Fitz School in Pepperell
🎃 October 21st 3:30-5:30 Groton Center (country club, Main Street, Hollis st, School St, Champney st, Fihlo’s, Groton Inn) (weather pending)
🎃 October 30th 11:45 Lawrence Academy
🎃 October 31st 6-8pm Trick or Treat Groton Center

We are hoping to add a ride to Groton Center/Rail Trail 10/25-10/26 if our schedule opens up for us, we will of course make an announcement of any changes!

What a night!! Thank you all! For the cheering, the love, and all the pets that Tango got tonight! He loved every minute of being out with people! This town is truly the best!

If you got pictures, please share!! We save them all to look back on as memories ❤️

Top comments and questions from tonight:
1: Is the rider real? - yes! I am very real, living breathing human under my costume! My wonderful husband escorts us on Halloween night to help guide us when it’s a little tricky to see sometimes!

2: can I see? Where is my head? - I try not to ruin the magic and simply show my pumpkin head when this is asked, and yes, I could see it all, all the awesome costumes and decorations!

3: top favorite comment: wow this horse is so realistic!! 😂 he is! And he will eat your candy too if you’d let him!

Thank you all for a spooktacular evening! It’s always a great time in town! See you all on Halloween!

Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone who came to say hi to Tango today at Groton Fest! Tango was truly SO happy to be out of the barn and in town today after two months of rest! He adores people, and having everyone petting him made him feel so very loved!
Thank you to Ducks For Cancer for Tango’s new duck! He loves it! ❤️

You may have noticed that Tango has not made very many appearances the last 6 weeks, aside from the neighborhood we live in. Tango was recovering from an unknown injury but with the help of his amazing team of vets and farrier we have a diagnosis and treatment plan. We are cleared to ride with some limitations and our first public appearance of the new season will be Groton Fest (weather pending).
We would love to thank our farrier and veterinarian who have been a tremendous help as we get Tango back on his feet and onto the trails!

Owning such a large beautiful animal comes with extreme responsibility and I am reminded more and more that Tango is no young chicken, although he still acts like one. Tango is nearly 32 years old, while his brain may be one of a ten year old his body is very slowly starting to reflect his age and as his mom I do have to make challenging decisions and set further limitations for him so he may live a very long and healthy life since he’s in his golden era. As of this moment Tango is cleared for his Headless Horseman activities so long as he continues to do well. The Headless Horseman will return, and we are very excited!

You may have seen Tango tonight at Sargisson’s Beach, thank you to all the sweet children who came to say hello!
With heat like we had today it’s not safe to ride, but the next best thing is taking a dip!
Did you know horses can swim? And most are very good at it! Swimming is an excellent form of exercise and physical therapy. Horses joints carry hundreds/thousands of pounds on a daily basis, and they only require only 30 minutes of rem sleep a day, so on average horses are standing for almost an entire day! Joints get achy and tired, and for Tango who weighs 850 pounds at 31 years old, allowing him to “float” was a wonderful experience for him. Lots of “this feels so good” noises as he enjoyed a soak for about 30 minutes!

And for those that were concerned about any potty business, I was prepared with plastic bags just incase Tango had an accident 😉
